Hey guys!

OK, i did a search through past posts on axles and lockers and i wanted to verify what i found.

The rear of my truck comes with a 8" corporate axle (according to the sticker in my glovebox).
The front axle is a 205mm.

For the rear there are ARB and Powertracs lockers available, but nothing else.
Nothing for front corporate axle.

Here are the questions:
Was there a 9.25 rear axle available for dakotas?
How did you get one?
What the heck is a 205mm front axle(size wise)?
Are there any other lockers available?
And the most important question, what comments do people have on use of lockers, did the powertracs ruin handling and tires on the road? How is the air compressor for the ARB?

Replys on anything would be great!

The rear end is an 8 1/4" It is very weak. It was offered in other vehicles such as the Jeep Cherokee. The 9 1/4" is a lot stronger. You can find it on fullsize rams. Some dakotas have them (All R/T's) I have looked to see which trucks get the 9 1/4" but it seems to be srort of random. I've seen both axles with 3.55 gears and 3.92 gears. I've seen both with the heavy brake option so I don't know how Dodge decides which Dakota gets which. Find a wrecked durango/Dakota with a 9 1/4" and swap it

The front axle (Dana M35 for 97-99 and 205mm for 2000-2002) are very weak also. The cases are unque and no one will make a locker for them because the limited customer base.

There are actually several options out there for both the 8.25" & the 9.25" axles. Unfortunately, there is nothing for the 205mm...at least nothing that I have found.

Check out the following link...Randy's Ring & Pinion is well-known & loved in the off-roading group:

http://www.randysringandpinion.com/dodge.shtml

To go down the list of questions:
1 & 2.) Yes, as 4wDakota stated, there are 9.25" rear axles on Daks. Unfortunately, they seem to be completely random in application. There have been a couple pretty lengthy threads on this topic, but we have yet to find any rhyme or reason to why DC put them on some Daks.
3.) 205 Millimeters = 8.070866 Inches
4.) As stated above, I have yet to find anything--either limited-slip or actual locker--for the 205mm.
5.) Lockers are a much discussed item. Try hitting up some of the dedicated off-roading sites, as most have pretty comprehensive write ups about the pros & cons of various limited-slip & locked setups.
6.) The ARB compressor has gotten great reviews for its intended purpose...air lockers. For those off-roaders that want a multi-function compressor (for tires, tools, and the locker(s)), go with a beefier unit, and spend the extra cash for the necessary plumbing to run the air locker(s) off of the "full-size" compressor.
