Subject: Suspension Sqweaking After 'Wheeling IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys,
I have a '01 QC, 4x4, 4.7L I was out doing some mild 'wheeling over the weekend. A little mud, and a shallow stream crossing, a couple of rocks. Ever since I got back on the road, I've got sqweaks in the suspension all over the place. Pulling out of my driveway (over a curb) makes a lot of sqweaky racket. The truck only has 15K on it. Are these things so susceptable to a little water? Is it something else? I've done a lot worse to my old 4Runner without the suspesion complaining about it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Message: Same thing happened to me. I used to be able to all but drive my old wrangler off a cliff and it still drove fine. But my 2001 Dak QC started squeaking like an old shoe after driving about 1/2 mile on sand dunes. Nothing too exterme and not a drop of water. I'll try greasing the zerk's right now but if that dosen't work-- the Ford super crews are looking more appealing.

Message: When I go off-roading and then steam clean the under carriage, I get squeaks. I found that they mostly come from the (stock)shackles and the leaf spring spacers. I usually just give them a quick spray with motorcycle chain lube or Tri-Flow and the squeaking stops within miles. Do not use WD-40, its a penetrant and anti-rust but has no lubricating quality.

Message: Having put literally thousands of off-road miles on my 2K QC, I would have to say that it sounds like the front sway arm bushings. They are a pain in the @$$ to grease though. You will have to completely drop the sway arm from your truck in order to grease each bushing, as none of the four bushings & carriers are equipped with grease zerks.
Keep in mind that you should stay away from your normal petroleum-based grease, as it will eat away at the rubber bushings.
