Subject: What is the name of this push bumper? IP: Logged
Message: My neighboor across the street has a friend that comes over once in a while with a Dakota exactly like mine, but it's a 4x4 QC. On his truck, his lower grey valence was replaced by this grey metal blockish push bumper and it has a few bars that come up to protect the headlights and radiator area. I have no idea what the name of this bumper is and I've looked online at many offroad and truck accessory websites, but have not found a picture of anyting like it. Does anyone have an idea of what kind of bumper I am talking about.
BTW, asking my neighboor is out of the question.

Message: If I had to take a guess I would say its a hanson bumper. Just look up hanson bumpers on this site and that should tell you.

Message: YES! That's the monster. Hrm, 80-90 pounds with just the bumper.
Looks good, not a horrible price, but 80-90 pounds. Might not sound like a lot, but when you need a light front end in drag and auto-x and drive a lowered truck it becomes a problem. At least any critters would be toast. Maybe I can take it off for weekend race events. I do not see anything on installations, how hard and long is the installation/removal process?
This one looks good on this truck.

Message: Glad you like it.
With a floor jack and an extra set of hands, installation wasn't too bad -- however I wouldn't recommend taking it on and off. The bumper is ideal for off-road use (awesome approach angle, tow hooks, winch mount, mean look, etc...) I agree though, way too much weight for a performance truck. Maybe you can talk Wayne (Hanson) into building one out of aluminum or titanium. Now that my winch is installed, I'll bet it tips the scales around 150+.

Message: That bumper is perfect for use around this area and it's very sleek too. I guess I'll shoot him an email or call him and see what he says.

Message: But I do console myself with the fact that I'm DEFINITELY getting a Hanson Bumper next summer as a present to myself for being in Korea for a year. Black with the shackle tabs, round foglights set in the bumper, and winch provisions. Also buying a winch to go along with it. And I'm kicking around the idea of a can-back black canvas topper (with the optional side windows and roof rack) and a new custom rear bumper (black with shackles to match the front).
That ought to destoy the money I'm saving over here.

Message: No mud yet. Even the mud pit was a cake walk. They were going through it in 2 wd. When dry we hit the trails that you can not go through when muddy.

Dan, are your parents taking good care of the Dak? Like I mentioned before, they are more than welcome to meet us at Hollister for a day of dirt and rocks :) we discovered a few challenging (fun) trails this past weekend.
