Subject: Bright Lights, Is This Possible??? IP: Logged
Message: I was thinking of mounting some kind of piaa or any other (doesn't matter) bright light behind my grill. has anybody done it before, or is it even possible??? I plan on getting a grill insert from grille tech, but I don't think that should make it a problem.
If so, what are the brightest lights to use?
The reason I ask behind the grill is I like the hidden look better, I don't want anyone knowing I have them, plus it'll keep the punks from screwing with them.

Message: I rally my truck in SCCA RoadRally. I use 2 Hella Rally 3000's. Their the best light for the buck! I have used everylight that is possible, form PIAA to KC, they all suck. Go with Hella, Trust me on that!

Message: dakotafreak, have you used the 4000's or the 4000 Motorsports (HID)? I love Hella myself and wondered which was the best out of the series. I usually use the 500's which are GREAT for the money but still only 55 watts. What are your thoughts of the best Hella light?! Thanks man!

Message: I almost forgot, Clevite 77... I was going to mention that the Hella 500's might fit behind the grill. I was thinking of doing the same thing but I haven't measured yet. The 500's are bright and come with relays for under $80 a pair.

Message: Well i think the 4000's are AMAZING, but VERY expensive. I have a friends that runs the 4000 halogen 100 watters with the pencil beam, they are awsome. I dont really prefer the pencil beam, i like the euro beam better. For anybody who doenst know the pencil beam, that is a long beam with barely any side illumination. The euro beam is distance with some side illumination. The cornering beam is strictly used for close wide light, no distance. As I said earlier, i run 2 3000's that are euro beams!

Message: I was looking at my truck last night and it looks like there isn't much room in between the grill and the condenser, but if anyone knows of a thinner light that'll fit, I'll be very interested to know about it.

Message: Hella Model 500's, round. Measure 6 3/8"Diam. x 6 7/8"H x 2 5/8"D
Hella Micro FF, rectangle. Measure 4 5/8"W x 3 3/8"H x 2 1/2"D. These are supposed to rock for tight applications and should work being only 2.5" deep.
I have used Hella's for over 10 years and love them, best all around performers IMO.
Anyone know if Xenon bulbs for the 550's are available? I have been searching the internet with no luck, they use H3 bulbs.

Message: I have the grill tech inserts. You will be very disappointed with the hood release extension and the clips they send to install the inserts. The clips are aluminum about as thick as a soda can. If you bend them out of shape once they will break. The inserts themselves look really great. I am happy with the quality of the inserts. I think they could have done better with install hardware. You need to be creative when you install them. Also be prepared to wait about a month to get them after ordering them. I live in Va, the same state grill tech is in, and it still took a month to get them.
If you decide to go with the Hella 500s the cheapest price I found is at 4x4 Connection.com. $62.95 for the kit. You might be able to find them cheaper but that's the best I could do.

Message: I am trying to make a mount of some sort so that I can put off road lights on either side of the windshield in front. The mounts will bolt up with the bolts at the rear of the hood. They are actually on the front side panels. Kind of like if you have ever seen a Jeep with KC's mounted by the side mirrors. I think the Dakota would look really awesome with some lights up there. If anyone has the same idea, but has already done this I would love to see some pics, or a how-to, on how to do this!
