If you happened to go off-roading, and you happened to get stuck, and someone pulled you out from behind, and six hours later you have no reverse. Will this be covered under warranty? My truck has less than 18,000 kms on it. I was in revese pushing, while the guy behind me was pulling. I had reverse when I left the mud pits. Now I don't have reverse at all. Every gear works fine but revese. I have a 2002 4.7l multi-speed auto Dakota Club Cab. Any ideas?

Pull the skid plates and make sure everything's nice and clean. Then take it to the dealer. Don't mention the wheeling. ; )

I also have to go to the wrecker and pick up a new bumper first. That might raise some questions.

Do you guys think I might have just bent/broken something on the exterior of my transmission? I did fall into a rut onto the undercarridge. I had reverse when I made it back into town and then it went. Could it be possible, I bent like the linkage or something, and then it finally snapped? I think that sounds mroe likely than me burning out reverse. Any thoughts?

GRiD,
If I had to bet money, I would bet on a linkage break or something. Not too sure on how these new tranny's operate (computer crap and all), but I agree, I doubt reverse was actually 'burnt' out. Kind of odd that it would do this with just a little bellyflop.

Good luck.

*Update*

Well, my truck has been at the dealer for four days now. The mechanic said they had to order in a new tranny as something had gone inside. If this isn't covered by the warrenty I am gonna have one helluva bill to pay. I have a cheapo Toyota Corolla rental right now, which is paid for by the warranty. I couldn't get the Jeep Grand Cherokee because I am under 25.

Anyone bought a new tranny for a 2000+ 4.7l Dak? Any idea how much it'll run me for if my warranty is no good?

You probably don't want to hear this...but for a tranny and a install...it usually costs around $1500-$2000, without taking into considerstaion that you brought it to a dealer and they charge more for install, and that we are talking about a brand new multi-speed auto and not one of the old 4spd overdrives.

I'm guessing somewhere in the $2500 area if the tranny costs more and the dealership charges you their wages for installation. Otherwise...it's the before mentioned price.

Just call the dealership...ask to talk to the head of the service department...tell him your truck is in their and you just wanted to make sure it was a warrantied item. It should be...if not...your dealer sucks a$$. I can't imagine a dealership actually charging you for it.

My dealership had to replace parts of my braking system for the ABS cause the ABS light kept coming on. The head guy came up to me when i came to pick up my truck...and he had some computer module with him. When he showed it to me it was covered and full of sand. I laughed. Luckily...so did he. He just told me to wash the undercarriage of my car a lot next time i want to bring it in...especially by the rear drums.

Point is...they know these trucks are getting used, they know we beat our trucks...everyone does...look at farmers and construction workers that beat their trucks on a daily basis. What i'm saying is as long as you didn't totally screw your truck by falling of a cliff or something...most dealerships will just cover broke items...especially ones that should have held up...like say a transmission.

I'd say if they won't cover it then take it to another dealer. You might have better luck.
