Been a long time sense I talked CB > I've run pretty much every brand of radio there is or was in years past > The best mobile I ever owned and still do is a laugh-a-lot 2400FM > This radio was built when the goverment was going to alot much much more space for CB > Never happened but some companies jumped the gun and ended selling a bunch or illigal radios under the counter > So be this 2400FM I have > It's name comes from having 2400 usable channels > AM, USB, LSB,6 banks of 40 channels with 2 sliders > 5 kc and 1 kc for fine tuning < It has 3 power bands > 4 watt, 8 watt and 25 watt > I ran it through a 200 watt tube type black cat > The best shooter ever made in my books > With the boot off, My swr high side was .2 > That is "point 2" > Almost totally flat > That was on a 102 inch whip > You want really good SWR you have to also cut your antena wire off a bit at a time while tuning your antena > Takes a long time to get it right but it will talk and have unreal ears > I still have this radio and only use it on long trips to the coast > I am using a K40 with magnet mount and a 100 christy boot for practical reasons > Does ok > If your poor you don't need an SWR meter > You won't get it perfect but you will get it to .5 if you work at it a bit > Key your mike and see how high the needle goes > Higher the better but you have to check it high and low chanels just like the SWR meter > Give a whistle in the mike > Needle should go higher which is what your looking for > If it goes down you got reverse modulation and means your cable/antena is 2 short > Go have some fun lol
