Ok guys, here's a dumb question for ya. My engine bay is filthy from 30K miles worth of driving and i've never washed it out. what do i need to cover and should i do it with the engine cold or does it matter? i have a K&N filter on a homebrew intake. Just thought i'd ask before i killed it or something. thanks.

I use simple green. I cover the distributer cap, pcm, fuse block, and anything else like the coil or anything electric with plastic grocery bags. I use the hose @ the house and just spray it lightly with water. Then i put on the simple green.. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so then rinse it off. After it dries i spray down all the plastic stuff in the engine bay with armor all tire foam.. Then after you do that wipe it down with a clean towel to remove any leftover tire foam and it will look brand new.. --Hop

Hop info sounds good but one point to add is watch the simple green. Don't let it get on your paint. It is a great cleaner but it will remove the clear coat. I know peolpe who washed there truck with it because "the dirt and bugs and tar come right off" and they regretted it later. Use the pump sprayer and spray it right on the engine and rinse it off and it'll be fine

Hey thanks guys. I knew you'd come through for me. I'm sorry that the subject was a little off of the topic of off-roading but i forgot to even look at where i was at. I appreciate the help. I just don't go anywhere else cause you off-roaders are the best. :)

And when youu off road you get the engine compartment very muddy.

I usually have mud on the hoses and what not thats a pain to get off with pressure. So I use soappy water and a rag to clean off all the hoses and what not. I spray it with a high pressure washer w/ soap first then clean off what didn't come off.
