Subject: Back to Moab I go. IP: Logged
Message: After I bought my truck last year I was in Moab within 3 weeks...still had my temporary tags on it.
I'm going back this Monday till thursday(ish).
She preformed very well last time, I was impressed. This time its a bunch of my friends. So we were wondering if anyone knew any good trails that you could camp on. Because wheeling for a day then camping next to the truck in the middle of nowhere seams like a lot of fun.
Thanks

Message: Nick,
You are only allowed to stay on the trail and that is it. There has been a lot of enviormentalinst locking down the land down there and only let you stay on the trail. I always stayed by the river. It is free and you wake up to the river. Nothing better.

Message: Planning to go to Moab in fall. Hoping to take some of the 3+ trails. When you say your truck performed very well, what trails did you take and were/are you stock or any mods.
Any trail there over 3 1/2 appears to need some mods for Dakota to survive.

Message: You should be ok. Some obsicles you WILL need a spotter so you do not do any damage. I did Poison Spider without a problem. There is really only one really diffucult spot on that trail. My truck is fully stock. Like I said you will need a spotter. Clearance is the problem and the rear departure angle. If you want some pics of me on Poison Spider or Lions Back let me know.

Message: Y22man. See pictures of a Dakota off-road? Absolutely! Not many good pictures available. My brother and I both own 02 4x4 QC's, he with 2wd, 4h, 4l & LSD, I with AWD, 4h & 4l. Both no mods, but we go off-road all the time in Nevada. Are the pictures available through this site or do you send to Email?

Message: Y22man. Located pictures in earlier post. Are these the ones you refer to or are there others? Use one of them for background on my computer.

Message: Las Vegas. Use #9 Poison Spyder. Sure looks like you should have scraped something. Impressive. Found the (stock) Dakota to be very off-road capable, although many don't think so.

Message: Cool. I saw the pic and thought I draged something too. I had to check to make sure tho. No scratches. Trust me I know When I drag or touch. It was one of those sanity checks.

Message: We did only one real trail. And messed around on some rocks in canyonlands...where the vistors center sent us. Served as a way to figure out her abilities again. And we camped on some rocks...near an existing fire pit.
Then we went and did "chicken corners" which was the trail I've had the most fun on. Including Gemni Bridges, and Klondike Bluffs. There were some intresting looking sections that the truck handled. Got a few pictures. Got really muddy. All in all I am very impressed. Chicken corners isn't rock crawling exactly. But some sections are. A lot of steep twisting trail, with obsticles in the way. Some steep enough for me to be happy I have a V-8 and had the power.
The Dakota is an excellent truck for going off road. It does as well as my dad's cherokee. But has several advantages that his Jeep doesn't have.
IFS is actually something I enjoyed there. Very useful I thought, but then again rock craweling isn't as fun as a trail with some obsticles but where I can drive and negotiate them without getting out every 2 minutes to spot. But still do things most SUV's or trucks can't handle stock.
I bolted on some tow hooks to the rear before I went just in case. But they were not needed.
Here is some pics from last year. And I will definitly be back as soon as I lift her, and drop in a bigger engine.

Message: If I ever learn how to convert my wife's digital cam corder to stills, I will try to post more off-road pictures. I looked at Nicks Dakota pictures and enjoyed them all. This is what I normally try to find around the internet, but way to few.
Youall get to Nevada, look up Logandale Trails, nice place to play around off-road. And no, I didn't drive all the trails shown.
