Message: I've never had experience with some of the expensive mufflers like Borla or Flowmaster but for a modest price the standard cylinder shaped Thrush is a fairly loud muffler. It's about maybe a foot and a half long if I remember right and it has the little mean looking bird on the side. It used to make a lot of noise on cars and trucks with headers and no converters if you lived in a small town where nobody cared about the legality of your exhaust system. Who knows how they would sound with manifolds and converters? I don't but good luck to ya.

Message: I've got a flowmaster 40 series two-chamber with 3" pipes and its pretty loud with my 4.7. I've got a friend with the same muffler on a 3.9 with a down pipe right after the muffler and it sets off alarms. His is also louder than mine because he does not have pipes all the way back.

Message: The Flowmaster 40 series is about as loud as you're going to get as long as you have the cats on. Unfortunately, in most states you're not "supposed" to take them off.

Message: Albert,
Where did you purchase your flowmaster 40 series for your 4.7L truck. Also is it dual split rear or a single side exit. I have a 2000 4.7 L 4X4 ext. cab truck and I am looking to get a flowmaster muffler with dual pipes out the back. can you or anyone else direct me on the right path to obtaining this system. Thanks

Message: You'll have to have the pipes custom ran. Find a good exhaust shop that can do that and they should be able to order the muffler for you. You want a single in dual out 2.5 inch inlet and outlets.

Message: I have the 3.9 V6 with the Flowmaster 40 series with 3" piping all the way from the cat, It is very deep and clean sounding, the best 6 cylinder I have ever heard. If you just want pure loudness you can just cut off the muffler and leave the cat with a little piping, that is very loud, although there is no tone and it is illegal.

Message: well boss, flow master is a pettry good start. It kinda depends on what you wanna pay. header will give you better flow and a little more power and a deeper grunt sound but not to much. kinda spendy though. high flow cat will help ever so slightly. Straight pipe will be loud but it will sound like crap. if you did a whole new system and went to 2 and a half inch pipe it would be a lil bit deeper sound but if you motor is not much more then stock you can loss power if you don't how the right back pressure. and really if you just did the flow master give it some time because it will git louder over time.
