I want to know what kind of differential I have on the front and back of my 92 Dodge Dakota? I've heard that it was a Dana 30 or 35. I don't know. All I know is that its a 8.25 ring gear. Can anyone tell me what kind of axles I have?

8.25 ring gear!?! HA...No that's not what that is. That is your rear diff size. Your gearing could be 3.55 or 3.90. I think those were the options back then and still are. Your front I believe is a DANA 35. I know it gets kinda confusing with all the numbers. You'll get the hang of it.

Tony,
I have 3.90 gearing in the rear diff. If the front diff is a 35, then what is the rear diff?

Your rear diff is a chrysler corporate 8.25"... Front is a DANA 35. If you have 3.9 in the rear you must absolutely must must must have the same gearing in the front. Think about what would happen if they were different and in 4 wheel drive... Your back or front would spin more than the other when everything should be turning in unison without resistance. If it was not, you could kiss your drivetrain good bye.
