Alright I have read all the tire FAQs for the 2000 Dakotas but I have a '96 Dakota 4x4 Ex. Cab and it is sittin on 30x9.50r15 right now and has plenty of room. Those are bout worn out and I need new wheels too so what is the biggest, baddest tire and wheel for my truck? I don't have a lift either and I don't want one.
Thanks

Most likely, the best you could do would be 31's and possibly 32's. 31's would be the best bet and they still look good.

That sounds like pretty good advice to me. A 31X10.5X15 with a 15X8 rim would be a logical choice. A 32 might work okay but I'd rather be sure and stick with the 31.

I agree with KJ. I know from experience. Right now I have a 87 Dakota 4x4 3.9V6. I have 15"x8" chrome Mod Pacer rims wrapped in 31x10.50 BFG All Terr. T/A KO. They look really great. Only when I put them on there, they rubbed on hard turns inside the back corner of the front fender well. But I fixed that really easily with a hacksaw and hammer. Feel behind the corner sheet metal in the back of fender well, you can cut about 1" up on the inside, and take the hammer and bend it back. do this on both front fenders and it won't rub, trust me!!! The only thing is I get 10, mabey 11 mpg tops with the bigger size tires. It also bogged down performane a lot!!!!!!. If anyone knows how to fix this, Please tell me. Personally I'm going down to 30x9.5 size tire with less agressive treads the next time I need Tires. Do what you like, but I lost alot of performance. LOOKS GREAT THOUGH!!!!

Going from 30's to 31's should not make that big of a difference in your power. A little maybe but not a lot. They only way to fix it is to changce your ring and pinions but with only going up 1 tire size it will be hard to get it back close. If you have 3.55 gears the next sixe is a 3.92, but only going up 1 in on tire size the 3.92's will put you in a lower range than what it was with the smaller tires and 3.55's. Now that I think about it, there may be someone that makes a 3.73 gear set for the older Daks but I'm not sure.
Hope this isn't to confusing.

You may not have lost as much performance as you think. Remember, with the bigger tires, your speedo is off and so is your odometer. I'm sure you lost some mpg's but your odometer might be making it look worse than it is.

The best tire size for your Dakota is the 31x10.5" tires. I recommend the BF Goodrich A/T KO's, sitting on top of a 15x8" wheel. You may need to do a 2" body lift if you want bigger tires to avoid rubbing and premature wear on your tire investment. They will use up more power, and will also change the odometer and speedometer, too, as the stock setup is configured for stock sized wheels and tires.

For pics of my truck with American Racing wheels and these BFG tires, see:

Yes, I agree with Ryan kane. I have the exact same wheels and tires on my truck all the same size. They work awesome but they do eat up some performance and GAS!!!

You can put 32x11.5-15 and only have slight problems on real hard turns. Thats what i have. I have put 32 goodyear at/s on there to replace the worn out 32 BFG A/Ts on there. The goodyears are much better handling wise and off roading except in deep mud were i felt the bfg had just a bit more to offer but the one thing i noticed is that the bfgs have taller lugs then the goodyears which caused them to rub more but the good years have a better tread design because they clearly out did the BFGs in everything but mud. If you want the biggest meanest tire 32 goodyear 32 BFG will work but will rub more and in my opinion is not as good a tire.

My choice for tires would be 31 or 32 inch mudders. Either BFG's or Procomp. And 31 or 32's don't eat up power or gas. The change isn't that drastic. especially if you have a newer dak with at least 3.73's. Plus you bought a truck. People don't buy trucks cause they want good gas mileage. Want good gas mileage buy a rice burner.

I put BFG A/T KOs 33X10.50R15s on my '97 Sport 4X4 5.2L 3.93 Rear Diff.

They look excellent. Ride height is up, no rubbing, and highway noise is normal.

Still need to swap out the speedometer gear.

Awesome Jicbulk!

Do you have any lift?
I want to put those exact tires on my 98 and was wondering about the fit with just a 2" body lift. Please email me or post some pics. I want to put them on my stock 15x8" rims instead of stuffing the 12.50's on them. I can't believe I FINALLY found a Dak with these tires!

About the speedometer gear, go to KRCperformance.com and get a KRC gear box

Thanks,
4wDakota

I have a 93 dak 2wd w/ 15x8 wheels from a 98 Durango to replace stock 15x6's. Im aware of the front caliper spacing problems, but am wondering if 31x10.5R15 Dunlop Radial Rover A/T's will rub if a 2" or 3" lift accommodates this upgrade?
