Here is what I want. This is to be a NO BS thread. I want to know your opinions on your tires. I have had BFG MT's, but I am more interested in the new ones. I want to know hwo they handle on dry road, wet road, how smooth the ride is, and how loud they are. Honest answers. No embelishing. Thats all I want.
I am doing some thought comparison. Thanks for your co-operation.

Not to step on your toes Hawkeye, but if anyone can compare the new goodyears and NEW BFG M/T KM and the Procomp M/T also that would also be useful. As hawk said, the new ones. And please no word of mouth like, "I heard they are quiet", personal experience only.

I was thinking of the Pro Comp MT's as being in with the BFG's since the tread pattern is almost identical. But after thinking more, the Pro Comps are only 2 sidewall vs 3 on the BFG's and also the Pro Comps center lugs are siped. So, we can include the Pro Comp MT's as well.
Yes, I want FIRST HAND accounts and knowledge. NO second hand. Thanks.

I've heard that Mickey Thompson Baja Belteds are a great on-the-road tire

NOT! lmao

I'm curious how this thread develops myself. These Mickeys are gonna go sooner as opposed to later. ;o)

Hawk,

You were there the day the shop down the road from your place mounted the BFG MT KM's. They've been on my truck for 12,000 miles now...I know that's a lot of miles in 6 months but I just did a cross country drive of 4000+ miles.

First off, let me say that I rotate them every 3000-5000 miles and generally keep them inflated to 34 front, 31 rear for the road, bumping the rear up to 34 or 35 if I'm loaded.

Wear: They seem to be wearing nicely. I've got roughly 3/4 of the tread left.

Noise: They sing a bit, but by highway speeds the loudest thing I hear is wind noise and exhaust noise.

On-road: Good in the dry, outstanding in the wet...they ignore standing water, and I find myself wondering why people are slowing down so much in the rain. At very low speeds I can feel the lugs hitting the asphalt making for a jiggly low-speed ride, but they smooth out quickly.

Off-road traction: Outstanding in mud, great in dirt, good in sand. The side lugs help out a lot in all three circumstances. BFG advertises the MT KM's as having "self-cleaning" lugs. That must be legal speak for "truck dirtying" lugs...anything in your lugs WILL end up somewhere on your truck.

I like them and would buy another set.

Say it with Krylon!

I have a quad cab 4x2 4.7 ...... bfg muds 31 .....I think they're awsome tires , I have about 6,000 on them , haven't rotated yet . Thye're noisy at low speed , specially on the take off or cruising at 10 to 15 , at higher speed they quiet down at 65 I don't her them anymore ...... On dry they are good , on wet excellent , real good grip , I ditto on dans observation , you're truck will get dirty ....Don't have an opinion on the goodyears

I have about 2k on my BFG MTs. 25% has been on the trail. Noise level surprisingly low for the lug size. I hear exhaust more than tires. Combined with radio I don't hear tires at all. You do get the lug rumble at low speed but as Dan said they smooth out quickly. I actually like that rumble, feels cool.

On Road: Nice smooth ride. Combined with Rancho 9000s set on 2 makes for a real nice ride. Good wet traction and cornering not too bad. I think the size of the lugs actually give a good contact patch on the road. That also helps in standing water, lugs are so big water is channeled through the lugs and lugs are always in contact with road.

Off Road: Great traction on hills, mud and rocks.
Wet traction great off road. Went through 2 ft deep creek crossing then tall rocks on other side of bank. Creeped up with ease. They are tough, too. I hit a sharp rock with sidewall and got a 1" cut about 1/16" deep and tire holding air fine. Probably did not penetrate into 2nd layer.

I really like the tires. I would buy them again.

Just one problem. Lugs are self cleaning...on your truck!! Medium to large size gravel will get stuck in the lugs. Can you guess where the gravel goes when it flies free from tire??
