Subject: What PSI for BFG A/T's? IP: Logged
Message: Hey, just got my new BFG's on last night, and i was lookin at the tire and it says max PSI of 50!?! I can hardly believe that, most i've seen is like 35 or something. Anyways, i put it 35 all the way around, but what PSI does everyone else run? I dunno what the happy medium is for these tires yet. :)

Message: I run the 33 BFG muds on my jeep at 30PSI. I think 35 sounds just about right for the front of your truck, but maybe a little less in the rear??

Message: i run 35 psi on my truck, they are the stock tires that came on the truck and that is what the factory set them to.
The stock tires say the max out pressure for them is 44psi, so if yours are 50psi, you might want to just bump up your psi a few, if it feels wrong then you can take them back down to 35...but i wouldn't exceed 40psi. 38psi sounds right.
And for those that think 3psi isn't enough to worry about...being 3 psi low on regular roads on most cars means 1 mpg less on fuel economy, so you could go from 15 mpg to 14...minimal to some, but just validating why one might fuss over 3psi.

Message: The max PSI rating is a safety thing.
Basically if you have so much load on your truck and thus on your tires that the tire looks low or flattened and you have 44 psi in it then get a bigger or heavier tire (or truck). Its so that guys don't put 70psi of air in their truck and try to support 3 tons in the bed. I saw a guy do this with a chevy Luv packed with welding equipment. He had air bags on his leafs to support the extra load and had the tires pressured up. Unbelievably unsafe!
The best way to find out air presure is to compare what the manfacture rates the stock tire for and vary that depending on the new size tire. A 33x12.50 will require less air pressure than a 31x 10.50 because of the larger contact patch.

Message: I have the same tires and in an effort to get better gas mileage and to justify to the wife Mud Terrains, I have been running mine at 50psi. After 23000 miles and only one rotation, they still have a ton of tread on them and they will probably last another 15000 mileas at least. These really are good, long lasting tires for around town and basic "dry" offroading.
I just installed the no-slip locker, so now we'll really see how they hold up.
good luck with the tires

Message: Hah, i sure did bliz. I got some Eagle Alloy 589s and some BFG A/Ts from 4wheelparts.com. It was only $990 or so with free shipping. I got 15x8's and 32x11.50's. I had to do alot of trimming to make them fit, but it was worth it. Im charging the battery for the digital camera here at work, so i'll try to get some pics tomorrow or something. I'll have to show you how much trimming i had to do. I really like the looks of the rims, and the tires, omg the tires. I cant stop grinning when i drive down the road. I CAN HEAR AGAIN!!!!!!! I never immagened that these could be so quiet. This is the first time i've heard my exhaust on the freeway, and now i can say, i really really like the mbrp catback. :) I'll have to get some 117's like you sometime eh. :)

Message: I usually run mine around 40 psi but i have a load range D on my tires. If i do a lot of towing I will bump them up to 45-55psi depending on load. When I got the tires installed they put 70psi all around which is fine but it bounced a lot. If you keep more than 40 psi the tires tread will not give you a true flat foot print when they are new but a few thousand miles they will flatten out. Overall I like 40 psi the best.

Message: I read in one of those off road mags. a little trick using chalk to find out correct PSI for your tires. Run a thick line of calk across the tread of your tire(s), drive a couple of blocks in a strait line (don't remember distance). Then check the chalk markings. If the ends are worn off but the middle is still there then your PSI is to low! If the middle is worn but the ends are still there then you have to much PSI. If the line is equally worn -- PSI perfect!
