Subject: So...Ceramic Coating...worth it?

I got a good deal on a set of nickel-plated JBA headers, and I'm considering sending them to Jet-Hot to get them coated before installation. Is this process worth it? I don't really care about preventing them from changing color, so that's not an issue. Will they last significantly longer if coated? Will decreased heat transfer have a noticable effect?

Thanks,
Chris

I've seen tests that ceramic coating actually reduced radiated heat from 500 degrees to around 210 degrees. I guess that helps. I have a set of Gibson stainless steel headers on my truck but not ceramic, so I don't know.

clean&shiny is good, mud&dirt is better

My other 4X4 is a 82' Jeep Scrambler that I swapped a Chevy 350 in. I always had big problems with overheating because of the small front surface area for the radiator. I tried all kinds of things that I won't get into but thwy all only moderately brought the temperature down but still to hot for serious summer wheelin. Anyway, when I replaced my headers with a set of ceramic coated headers and put them in, it made a world of difference both in heat reduction and in better performance .

Go for it. I just had a set of Doug Thorleys and Y-pipe done and these were ROUGH. They do excellent work O2 and all. I needed to reduce a lot of heat so that was my only choise. These headers fill the engine compartments and heat is a problem in a 93-96. Usually I can feel a lean problem and you couldn't tell it hotter than normal. If only this engine build was as simple as getting those done.

5 day turn around.
