This is really a two part question. First I've heard that the Durangos come with the 9.25 rear instead of the 8.25 like my Dak. If this is true is it a direct swap to the Dak? i would like a stronger rearend before I start getting insane with the motor.

I think the shocks mount one the axle tubes in the Dak and on the spring mount plate on the Durange. You may be able to cut the mounts off and weld them on the Durango axle tubes.

I got the 9.25 rear end stock in my truck. Both shocks mount to the axle tube.

I would look into getting one from a Dakota that way you dont have to change the mounts.

I would like to, but wrecked R/Ts are a little hard to find. As far as I have been able to find out they are the only one with the 9.25. the shock mounts aren't too much of a concern. Since I posted I've had the chance to look under one and you can get away with some longer shocks, say ones for 0-3 inches of lift. Also, I'm going to have the shocks mounted to the top of the axel to get them out of the way for off-roading anyway. My main concern was the axel width and spring perches. Thanks

5 speed V-8 Daks came with 9.25" diffs sice 97' I think. I know the 98 had them, at least in 4x4 version. Mine is a 9.25" as well.

Count the bolts on the diff cover 10=8.25" 12=9.25".

Or measure the distance between the pockets to get rearend size. LOL

CrzyBri82...go to any Chrysler dealer with you VIN # and ask for a "read out" on your truck, that read out will tell you ever part that was put on YOUR truck. The read out will tell you the rear end size and gear size, the brake size.

I would think that all V8 trucks came with 9.25 rear ends(I have the 9.25) and they are made by Dana or Detroit Gear. Hope this info will help ever one.
