Subject: Holley TB vs Others IP: Logged
Message: You all have probably seen my other posts regarding my TB probs since Sept 2001. Both of my problems have been the result of quality control failure on the part of Holley. The first was that they left off a connection on the linkage for one of the control cables. The TB was replaced, but I had to pay to ship the defective unit back. My latest problem is that the vacuum port on the TB was never drilled so a vacuum was never provided to the emissions system. This triggered a Check Engine Code. (I had a lot of Dealer hassel regarding this issue and was concerned that Dodge was going to void my emissions warranty.) I am sure that Holley will agree to replace the unit as this is clearly a manufacturing defect.
However, I am really getting tired of this "trial and error" system with Holley. I don't know, but I probably don't have the option of getting my money back ($400+). I may raise a little (or a lot) of H&LL and see if I can.
What are your opinions of the other performace TBs? I have heard bad things (only one good report) about Magnum Performance. Fastman and Flow metric seem to get good reports. I have also heard good stuff about Hughes Modified TBs. Has anyone had units from different companies that could provide a comparison?
I really like the performance and sound of the Holley compared to the OEM. I am wondering how it compares to other units.
Thanks
Bill

Message: Did you try relocating the vaccume line? That way you won't have to send it back.

I have not re installed the Holley TB. Since I've got it off and its under warranty, I want to get it properly corrected, replaced or refunded.
I do appreicate your advice regarding the vacuum source on the intake manifold.

Message: I put the 48mm Flometrics throttle body on my V6. Bruce (the front man of Flometrics) was really helpful and answered all my quetions. The quality of the TB was unbelievable. If you want (and can afford) a fresh billet aluminum TB, go with Flometrics, if you want a used TB thats been reworked go with fastman. Check out speedtweaks.net for all the info.
Oh yeah, Bruce is also a Dakota R/T owner and knows what he's talking about.

Message: I finally got my Holley "fixed" so it produces vacuum to the emissions system.
I like my Holley (good sound and power), but I would really like to try a Flometrics or Hughes or ??.
Anybody out there with a late model 5.9 that would like to trade custom TBs for a week or so??
Bernd (if you're out there) it seems that not too long ago you wanted a Holley 52 mm TB to Dyno. Do you have another TB I could try while you tested my Holley?
Sounds like fun!!!!

Message: Bernd
I have also had the pleasure of dealing with one of Holley's "schmucks". The "schmucker" thought he knew it all and was adament that the Dodge Dealer Tech (that said my check engine light was caused by the TB) was wrong - after all, Holley MAKES the Dodge TBs for Christ's sake...
After I confirmed that my problem was indeed with the Holley TB, I contacted a different Holley Tech that was really a good guy that helped me figure out the fix.
However, in my opinion, the world has got to have "schucks" so that we can recognize and appreciate the "good guys".
If you ever change your mind about testing the Holley, let me know.
