Subject: Flex-a-lite Black Magic Electric Fans IP: Logged
Message: So i was lookin on flex-a-lites website ( www.flex-a-lite.com ) and i think that that black magic 150 should fit my truck. I've heard of the people with those old eninges (hehe, just kidding) using them but no one with a 4.7, would it fit on my truck, and what about my current electric fan (my truck came with one)? would i have to remove it or am i just sh!t out of luck. Anyways, thanks for any advice.

Message: I was going to do that but on my truck removing the fan made very little to no diff. I was thinking at the time leave the factory fan where it is and use another fan on the front side to push air through instead of pulling it.

Message: I was thinkin about just removing the clutch fan, as i have heard a few people do. But it gets alot hotter than normal under there with that KB sittin on the top of my engine. I guess i could try it and see what happens. I probably dont have to worry about it right now, being that its the winter time and all, but once summer hits i'd have to watch it really close. Maybe if i got a cowl hood it would be ok in the summer. Bah, who knows. The only thing you can count on, is its always gonna cost too much money. :)

Message: Oh sure just flaunt your kenne-bell in our faces! Just kidding. How much power would you be saving from removing the fan and replacing it with an electric.

Message: I heard that you are supposed to get a good 17hp out of it, i was thinking more of that annyoing sound it makes when you first start going. :) But im at a point (called out of money) that any little thing i can do get get some more ponies out of it would be sweet.

Message: Everything I have read and inquired on this subject shows big HP gains for the Magnum engines that had only an engine fan without aide of an electric like our 4.7's. DC recognized the power robbing fan and made the 4.7's more efficient by utilizing both electric and clutch fan's so you probably will not find alot of lost ponies there. Since CW has already tested the removal of the clutch fan with little benefit, I am leaving mine on for now and when it comes hot weather and using A/C in stop-n-go traffic I know the electric will not be sufficient even with 180 t-stat. The push/pull electric fan configuration may be a possibility though, let me know if you try it and it works CW!

Message: Oh I may try it yet. I know one thing for sure that removing the fan didn't work half as good, as on my '97. The fan is half the size as well. But feel free to try the removal all you need is a 1-7/16" wrench. This is a good time to do it, it is winter.
