What have people done to force air directly into the stock air-filter box? It looks as though the turned elbow on the front of the stock air-filter box only sucks in air from inside the fender but the fender doesn't seem to have a real good direct flow of air. The viable option seems to be be removing the rubber flap on the left side of the radiator and running some sort of pipe/hosing from the bottom of the air-filter box directly to where the rubber flap would have been. That doesn't seem to logical though since that pipe/housing would be restrictive due to A/c lines and such.
I am not interested in getting an aftermarket intake kit or doing a complete homebrew so answers to the above question will be much appreciated. Thanks

I cut off the 3" inlet tube and glued a 4" sawdust waste gate nozzle from Lowes onto the air filter box. Then used 4" saw hose to run out beside the radiator and attached it to the other outlet of the waste gate that I attached to the radiator support frame. It looks like it came from the factory that way. So now i'm feeding 4" cold air from the grill into the air box through a K&N drop filter. No big performance difference, just feel better about it.

All your doing is picking up more dirt more bugs and water (when it rains I'm in So. Cal.)I don't think any of the after market air intake systems will do better than the stock system for the 4.7 dak.

Since my original posting I have since found out that the stock airbox pulls its air from the "top" of the passenger side fender, from the base of the windsheild. In a minor way it is acting like a cowl inducted system. Good air pressure and airflow. Mine will remain stock.

Big Blue,
Suncoastcreations has a ram air hood that takes in air and channels it into the stock air box. It looks like it would work very well cause it still stops water, bugs and dirt before it gets to the filter.

I have seen may differant cold air systems available. I found and intalled a Ram Air Box from Air Inlet System on my 1993 318ci. The kit uses and fiberglass box with dual 4in inlets that are routed to the froft of the truck on either side of the radiator fro true cold ram air. You have to relocate the battery abit but I found that the total overall performance and torce was wery noticable. When I bought mine three years ago for $175.00 it was way cheaper the the comitition at $250 or more and worked better. You can read more about the product by doing a search key word "RAM AIR BOX". The kit listed for my 1993 Dak called for round 6in cones. I used the fiberglass 6in x 4in instead for a better fit . One where the old factoery inlet was and in the same place on the opposing side.

good luck

I just bought the viper style ram-air hood and I bought the functional kit hoping that it would end up working, but no. The V8 is longer which means that the throttle body set farther forward. I am looking into some how making it work, but it isn't looking to promising.
