Subject: IAT sensor relocate? IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone relocated their IAT sensor on a hombrew intake for the 4.7? What does it do? I have no other engin mods , other than the homemade intake , so would this make a difference? What does the sensor do?
I know , I could probably look this up in the archives , I'm lazy , but I can admite it!!hehe.

go to www.speedtweaks.net they have a tips and tricks section that has some good stuff. This what they had about the IAT:How to relocate your IAT Sensor
The IAT Sensor is located on the #2 Intake Runner (3.9/5.2/5.9L) or under the Throttle Body, in the manifold (4.7L) - Big Brass looking sensor with two wires (Grayish connector)
Remove the IAT sensor from the manifold and plug the hole with a 1/4" NPT Pipe Plug (Home Depot)
Drill a 1/2" hole in the intake tube and thread the IAT sensor into the hole (use some silicone if you want...not required though) - You may have to extend the wires about 6-12" in some cases (use 16ga. wire)
Hope that helps !!

Message: I just had the IAT sensor out of my truck and in the 4.7s it isn't threaded into the intake. It is wierd shaped and takes a quarter turn to remove. I should of took pics but I forgot. :(

Message: If you have a stock setup and the IAT is the plastic type then it's allready in a good location.
I have the 2003 with the 4.7 My bro in law has a 2000 RAM with the 5.2 His is the thread in type in the aluminum intake. We took measurements on both and after you sit the HOT aluminum intake heats up the IAT quite a bit especially when you turn off the engine. The readings on his would tell the computer it was like 150 degrees or hotter because his intake heated the sensor up. So I bet when he re starts the hot engine, say after he bought a slurpy that thing would run lean a few minutes. I wonder if it effects it somewhat when stopped and idling at a red light? I bet the HOT intake would heat up that threaded in IAT sensor and give a crappy reading so when you first take off it would be several seconds before it cooled to actual air temp.
That's just an idea. So we're about to relocate his IAT to his home brewed intake tube. Funny thing is we found that a thermistor from a Trane Air COnditioner has the exact same temp to resistance readings so we're going to leave his threaded in IAT where it is, not plugged in, and use this other sensor in his intake tube. He'll be back monday so we'll do it after that and let you know what it does.
Again, the new 4.7 like mine has a plastic intake (advantage) and the IAT allready in the intake tube. Mine is moved just because my OEM air hat is gone for my home brewed intake. I assume with my intake taking in air slightly cooler from behind my foglight, and with less resistance that I needed a better fuel mixture to match, so I installed a 2.2k ohm resistor inline with my IAT (doesn't matter which wire) to trick it into thinking the air temp is almost 10 degrees cooler than it is. People are doing this to completely stock setups. I'm not sure if that is correct or not. I'll let you know how my latest mods worked after a few days of driving.

Message: i have the adjuster, and i moved mine to just in front of the TB as it pulls air in it naturally cools it from the rushing air so i dont have to use the adjuster that often.
You gotta ask yourself one question...That Thing Got A HEMI???
