Ok, my buddy took his throttle body of his ford today, and took the butterfly valve out. He then cut the shaft that it mounts to, and ground it down and polished it out. So basically when the throttle is wide open, he now has half the thickness of the shaft that the butterfly turns on. Hince better air flow. Can this be done to the Dakotas? 2000 4.7 is what I am looking at. He said it made a huge difference. Thanks for you help.

Yes it can be done but I think I would start with the 2001 TB, it is 68mm instead of 65mm. I don't think I would look for a huge difference with the porting. The dakotas also have a lip in front of the blade that can be removed to help out flow as well.

Do you know if there is a page that would have some details with a pic? And how much would that bigger TB cost?

I know of no page that has TB porting for the 4.7. I have heard of the 68mm going for $165 new but they need a little porting to really work well. You could opt for the fastman 68mm it fows better then a stock ported one but the cost just went up. I think they are $250. or the F&B for $400 all avalible at speedtweaks.net. Here are the instructions that I have been giving people.

porting throttle body:
The key to porting the throttle body is to NOT remove any material from around the throttle blade when it is closed. Remove the lip that is in front of the throttle blade so that it is the size of the throttle blade. It is quite a narrowing compared to the size of the throttle blade. I used a dremel with sanding drums at 60 grit so as not to remove to much material to quickly. I didn't remove the throttle blade or anything. Just removed the throttle body from the engine. You can narrow the throttle shafts as well to aid in flow.

Sorry no pics unless someone wants to buy me a camera. :)

I'm doing my own modifications to a V8 TB and I was wondering what kind of grease to use on the bearings for the butterfly assembly?

Doesn't need to be anything special it isn't high heat or high load. Just a graphite grease is what I would use if avalible.

For the money, Fastmans is a great deal. If you're going to do a performance kit or something like that, then I suggest the Stage 4 kit from Speedtweaks. Lots of goodies there.
