I have a '99 Dakota 4 cylinder, club cab, 5 speed tranny, (2WD), and want to change the engine to a V8. I also have a'98 that had been totaled, V8, 4X4, 5spd. After removing both engines and trans I found out that the two trucks are very different. The engine supports in my '99 are welded to the frame and are much longer than the ones that are in the '98. I will get another tranny (NV3500), but the two crossmembers are different. The crossmember in my'99 is about 1/2 inch longer, and the driveshafts are different. My '99 is a two piece driveshaft, and the one in the '98 is a single piece. And then there is the chasis wiring harness.
1. If I get the motor mounts for a'99 V8 will they fit on my engine suports, or do I need to have my engine supports cut, machined, and rewelded to the frame?
2. Will I need a new crossmember, and driveshaft?
Has anyone ever attempted this job? At a Dodge Dealership a parts salesman told me that I was trying to make a truck that didn't exist (2wd,club cab,5spd, V8).Is this a true statement? Some kind of way I will make this happen.. I just need a little more help. Thanks.
