I've got a problem when starting my truck....

It cranks fine, but just as it starts, it hesitates... spits and sputters, then comes to life like nothings wrong. It only does this after sitting for a few hours,

It started doing this aroun 1/2 way through a tank of shell gas. I've putting Citgo gas in there 90% of the time before.

Since then, I have drove the Shell gas until it was empty, refilled it with a full tank of Citgo, (still no change) so I put a bottle of b-12 chemtool gas treatment, and filled the tank with Amoco 93 Ultimate clear fuel. Wit a 1/4 tank left of that... it still does the same.

The mods I have are as follows, the only thing I can think of remotely close would be the TPS mod may have vibrated a little loose and the setting might be off.

My other thought (more reasonable one) is maybe the fuel pump isn't holding pressure and isn't building up pressure in time for start-up.

I have tried cycling the key a few times before cranking, still nothing (and yes, I can hear the pump hum when I cycle the key)

Thanks for any help

one more thing.... it runs fine when started, and after 5 seconds of running, it fires right back up.

Whats up Clevite. I'm no mechanic by any stretch but could it be your plugs all fouled up? I've heard that from a few others with autolites. I think they foul pretty easy.

Hey CThomp, What cha been up to?
As soon as I get a chance, I'll pull a plug. It's been nearly 30K miles since I put the plugs in, so there have been stranger things. Just with working 2 jobs, and now having a girl in my life... it's hard to make time to work on the truck... but a plug issue would be an easy fix lol...

Thanks, I'll check into it.

One more thing.... my only argument to that is, it runs fine once stated... but anything easy is worth a try... I hate taking it in...

I know the sound you are speaking of Clevite.
If I start my truck and let off the key too soon I truck with fire once and then not start. On the next try is will start and sputter and choke and then run fine. My thought is that fuel was shot into the combustion chamber but not combusted. So the next shot has too much fuel and has to pump it out of the cylender or burn it off.

I have no proof but that is my assesment.

hope this helps, good luck.
