Subject: Hawkeye XTerrain Rotation?

Message:
I am coming up on 3K and time to rotate these bad boys when I got to thinkin, mmm... these are directional so the standard rotation will not do unless I peel all the tires off the wheels. I can do it at my uncles auto shop for free but unfortunately he does not have the "touchless" tire machines and you always end up scuffing up the rims even being careful. After 4 or 5 rotations, I'll have no clear coat left on my rims to worry about though, lol.

Just wondering if you have been rotating them the usual way or tried something else that is working for ya. I don't think that rotating the rears to the fronts/fronts to rears of the same side and will keep the tires from wearing unevenly. It seems I am talking myself into doing it the right way:) but your recommendation from experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would try front to rear, when radials first came out that was the recommendation. Just look at the wear on the tires or have a wheel alignment professional look at them. 3K sounds like a short time to rotate I went 5K on my last rotation and you could not see any abnormal wear on the tires.

I have been told by tire retailers and my uncle who owns a auto/tire shop that tires with very aggressive tread require more frequent rotation. I just want to make sure I do it right and not shorten the life on tires I paid over $600 dollars for if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the response though, I will probably be rotating front to rear tomorrow until I see if ProComp responds back on their suggestion.

I have the same tires and I have the same question.

Ive only had them on for about 3 to 4 weeks so Im okay for awhile.

Just when the time comes I can know what to expect and know how much Im going to have to spend.

Sorry for the slow reply. Been out of town.

I have always rotated my tires front to back anc back to front, keeping them on the same side.
With the X-Terrains there really isnt any other way, unless you do as you mentioned, but, repeated removing and remounting will eventually damage the belts in the sidewall and make for a rough ride. Or so I have seen/been told.

Thanks Hawkeye, did a front to rear/rear to front rotation over the past weekend so I should be all set then. Have you notice any scalloping or chopping of your tires at all and how many miles you got on'em now? Just wondering after the miles start to rack up, how they hold up.

Thanks again.

There is a little scalloping on the tread blocks. Not too bad. I attribute most of it to the fact that I needed an alignment pretty bad and didnt realize it. By the time I got the alignment done, it had already started scalloping. Since the alignment, it hasnt gotten any worse since the alignment though. Tires seem to be holding up pretty well. Maybe a little better than average for say a mud tire. In other words, not quite as good as a regular all terrain, but better than a mud terrain.
