Subject: overheating 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: I have a 4.7 that over heats. First I replaced the t-stat and rad. cap, still over heats.Changed the water pump and replaced the radiator, still over heats. Pressure tested cooling system, leaks off. Removed spark plugs, presure tested again, coolant in rear cyl in right bank. Replaced head gaskets, retested and it held. I thought that it was fixed. Drove it about 100 miles over 2 or 3 days, still over heats. The coolant expands into the reservior each time it is driven but fails to return into the system until there is not enough coolant in the system to cool the engine. HELP. Any ideas what the problem could be. Dave

Message: What about the radiator cap? I see you replaced it, but does it hold 20 PSI?
Coolant going into the overflow is normal. With a cap that holds pressure the fluid will return from the overflow as it cools down. Sounds like a bad cap to me.
