Subject: How to get OBD codes? IP: Logged
Message: Last week I totaled my 2000 Dakota. I could get the OBD codes without needing to use a scanner by turning the ignition key on- off 3 times. Now I'm looking at a 2005 to replace it and the dealer says I wont be able to do that on a 2005 and I'll have to use a scanner. Since I'm always skeptical about what a dealer tells me, is that true ?

Message: Mike,
Always a good rule to be skeptical.
Get in the 05 you're looking at, try the key thing 3 times real quick, if it's got none stored, it will say 'done'
And/or, you can always got to an auto parts store, nat'l chains do them for free.
Good luck.
Drive it like its paid for!
