Subject: Noise from my transmission IP: Logged
Message: So in the mornings when I first get in my truck and drive down the road. There is a roaring type noise i guess is the best way to describe it that i think comes from the transmission. It only happens when the engine is cold like in the mornings. And goes away after just a few hundred yards or until the trans gets into 2nd gear. Has this happened to anyone else????

Message: Are you confusing this sound with the fan clutch? What you describe sounds exactly what I experience on chilly mornings, or if I haven't driven the truck in a while.

Message: Maybe I just figured it was the trans because it went away after the tranny shifted gears. Is there a way to fix the fan clutch?

Message: There's nothing to "fix". That is normal behavior for a viscous fan clutch. When it's cold it takes a bit of driving to get the fluid thinned out enough to stop driving the fan. What you hear is the fan cutting through the air. I'd be worried if this never happened.
