Subject: Drivers side carpet soaked all the time IP: Logged
Message: Hey Guys.
I have a 2000 slt (4.7l) extended cab....Part of me loves the truck part of me cant wiat to tell you my ordeals with it...
My latest and greatest is the drivers side carpet is always soaked..passangers side is somewhat but no where near as bad. It seems ot be coming from the behind the dash in the area of the tranny "hump".
I have been unable to locate the condensate drain (not that i ever use the AC but the defroster has been on)...i know i have ot find that first ...ANy other places to check?
Thanks.

Note this is 1 of 2 problems i am posting the other is my hay-wire locks

Q) Does the liquid smell/look like it's coolant, or is it clear (just water)?
If it is coolant than it's gotta be somthing with your heater: the core, hoses, etc. I had a car many years ago that leaked coolant out the heater control valve. The vacuum line was piping coolant from the flow valve into the dash. Don't know if there is anything like that on our Dakotas, but look there as well.
If the water is clear, and you've ruled out the evaporator return plumbing it could be a leak in the window or cowl seal. Do you live where there is plenty of rain? Does this happen mostly/only when it rains?
Let us know if this helps.

Message: It is water not coolant.
It does seem to be worse after rain, but is soaked al of the time. Thsi problem just happened one day and has ever dried up since. Now the passangers side is wet as well.
When i step into the cab it gushes out like ringing a wet towel out...
It does rain a bunch here.
I have hit 2 deer with the truck before as well.
Again, it was just one of those "just happened" deals .. no rhyme or reason...
I have sprayed the truck down with a hose and chekc inside..nothing more/less evidnet on where it is coming from....

Message: When mine was doing that, the dealer had a windshield company come in and reset the windshield, that fixed the problem.

Message: I had this problem with my 02 dak. The drain for the evap is under a heat shield passenger side fire wall behind the eshaust manifold. Had to remove the wheel well fairing to get to it easier. took the cover off, put a 1/2 pvc street elbow with a small hose clamp, solved the problem.
Seems the drain would back up into the evap and overflow into the cab. with the down turn of the 90, it stopped doing that.
