I just want to know if anybody has changed out there 2wd to a 4wd. Im really intrested in the whole conversion. Like the complet suspension change. I could use some info on whats needed mostly to make it happen and if anybody has done it, plz share how it went down. The basics i mean. I have been thinking that my 2wd is not enough for me anymore but there so much in it and on it that i may lose money selling it and buying a 4x4, besides, could you sell your baby.

I have no experience on this, but i'm sure the advice from the folks who have done work to their 4x4s they would say, "forget about it...".

If you wanted to put in the factory IFS setup the frame is not setup to accommodate the driveline and suspension changes. For one, the 4x4 use torsion bars, because the drive axle runs right through where your coils springs are now. I would guess that the frame doesn't have the mounting points for the necessary hardware either. You would probably have to go with a solid axle coil suspension setup if you went for it.

But if you really want to do it, there is nothing you can't do with enough time, and a big enough checkbook. (And of course, the necessary knowledge.)

You would (more than) probably end up spending less money if you kept your 4x2 Dakota and bought another 4x4 Dakota to "play" with instead of converting what you have.

What's your left foot doing?

The easy way is to get a complete 4X4 frame with all the running gear and mount your body on it. Also get the hump for the transfer case shifter. The only thing that is not different is the engine and radiator. Dan
