I have a 99 Dakota R/T. I think leaf springs come factory in the R/T's, but 'm not sure. I wanted to lower my R/T 3"-4 in the rear and 2"-3" in the front.

well, i heard that 2" coil springs will only lower truck 1" in the front. is that true?

In the back, i wanted to get a 3" steel block kit with u-bolts. i plan on getting new shocks too, so the ride wont be very stiff.

Anyways, to get the point, will i have to get 3" coil springs in the front to lower the front 2"? And if i get a 3" block kit, will it lower my truck 3" in the back, and will i have to take my factory leaf springs out?

Thanks guys!
Matt

the factory r/t drop comes from 1 inch lowering coils, and one inch lower leaf springs (as compared to a regular dakota).
so 2 inch lowering coils will lowering you 1 inch, 3 will lower you 2, and so on. im not sure what you mean by 'taking out' your leafs, but to put the blocks in, you undo the ubolt, put them on under the leafs, but the new U bolt on.

that'll give you a 2-3 drop, front back respective.

Actually the blocks go between the leaf and axle, under the axle and over the leafs. So the bigger the block, the lower your leafs with sit to the ground. Support your suspension to take pressure off the leafs then start unbolting the u-bolts. If you don't relieve pressure, the nuts will be tight all the way down and when you pop the last nut off, your suspension will bottom out so be sure you support it so that don't happen. Once you loosen the nuts relieve a bit of pressure from the jack to let the leafs sink and lower themselves, once enough room has been created you can slip the block in there, then tighten it all back up, its pretty easy. Up front, for the best ride, you probably would want to do control arms. Springs just make it ride rough as hell imho.

sorry for the mistake, i knew i was thinking backwards on that... its under the leafs for trucks that dont have their axle positioned the same as ours.
