i was told that you get about an inch drop for every half of a coil you cut. then i was also told that this is not the way to go. i quote "The is a shortcut that people often regret later. It will ride like sh!t if you cut them..." and so on so i hope this helps. o ya i was told not to torch the springs either cuz this can cause other problems.

I wouldn't drop the front more than 2" with
coils. Anyway, I dropped the front of my quad a
full 2" by cutting 1/3 of a coil off a set of RT CC
coils I had picked up.

But remember the RT coil has a higher rate
than the V6 coils you have, so you'll probably
have to cut more.

I'd measure, then remove and cut 1/2 or 1/3 of
a coil, reassemble and re-measure. Repeat if
necessary.

That way you could figure how much more
you'd need to cut.

For the record, if you cut the coils properly,
they'll ride and handle like factory. Both my
Quad and my Mustang have cut down factory
coils and they ride like stock.

Cutting a coil spring increases the rate
slightly, but that's a good thing as you're losing
some suspension travel.

My two cents,
Lemmers

I dropped my 93 by cutting BRAND NEW stock coild last year. I got 4 1/2" by taking out 2 coils. Plus then the passenger side spring lost it's rate, and sagged. All together it was a huge learning experience. It rode TERRIBLE...I Really mean TERRIBLE. I bought a set of Belltech Nitrodrop shocks, thinking that would fix it...NOPE. Just blew the shocks. Take my word on this one. Don't cut you springs, and if you do, don't take off more than one coil. I ended up not driving it because i was going to hurt the frame bottoming out so much..and it bounced sooo bad. even with the good shocks.
hope this will save you one hell of a headache.

Oh yeah...also spent a set of Control-arm bushing cuz of it..

Peace

HOLY CRAP! A 4.5" front coil drop on a '93? I
don't see how the truck could have even been
riding on the springs at all.

We dropped my brother's '95 2" using
Western Chassis drop spindles and the tops
of his front tires are even with the fender
opening!

You won't have a problem if you measure,
disassemble, cut 1.2 coil, reassemble,
measure and repeat if needed.

Or......you could pony up the $250 for drop
spindles and keep the ride and front end
geometry totally stock.

LOL...First time dropping a truck...wish I never did that. I have some good scars on the front cross member to prove it. I smartend up quite a bit recently and bought myself a new set of front bags from AIM.
2-Phoenix Bags
2-Bracket kits
2-Shock relocation kit w/shocks
lines, fittings, and all else for just $401.00 shipped to my house. I decided to go with the shocks in the front, because I don't want to put my 93 through that again..lol. I'm still running Belltech Nitrodrops and 4" blocks in the back, with a little roughness and little bouncing.
Can't wait for my bags.

thanks for all the help! i think i am going to go ahead and cut about 1 1/4 coil off, and then use either those belltech spring relocators with blocks, or a shackle/hanger kit for the rear. I want the rear to sit slightly higher than the front. i dont like the level look.thanks again

This is my truck dropped before the cut coils were in. this is a 3/4 drop. maybe a bit more. This truck is now Flemenco Black pearl and is soon to have bags on her...1 week more to wait.

if that is a 3/4 drop, then i am going to do a 3/3 drop because i want the back sightly higher than the front. Do u guys think i could get a full 3 inches by cutting the coils without sacrifising to much ride quality? By the way, NICE TRUCK!

I have 1 1/2 coils cut out the front and Bell Tech spring relocators, 2" blocks and air shocks in the rear.
As alot of em have told you on this tread, cutting coils isnt the right way to lower a Dak.
I never measured mine but cutting the coils dropped it a shi$$load. I cut the rubber out of the rebounder cups down to 1" and it still hits em ALOT.
I only drive this Dak when I need the N2O rush so it doesnt see regular duty like some of yours, if you use yours on a regular bassis do yourself a favor and drop it right.

You can of course see mine in the thumbnail pict, if you want a little better pict let me know and I'll take my bed off shot out of my profile and put it there.

Oh, for ones comment above, dont forget that the taller the tire the less drop it takes to "hit the inner fender". I have 225-60/15 on the front of mine.
