Hello
I am putting bags on my beast, but I want to know from you guys who have done it for a while what the best size bags would be. 2500 back? 2600 front? Firestone? Also, has anyone installed bags on a 93 dakota? I need to know if their is much cutting to be done, and if you had any other issues. I have completely stock suspension (besides belltech NitroDrop shocks and 2 inch drop springs). the rear has blocks right now untill bags go in.
Thanks

I have installed bags in the front of my V8,1987 Dakota 360c.u., I do believe our trucks have the same suspension.

I hand fab'd everything for the front install. I had to cut a large section out of my spring pockets and reinforce everything with 1/4" plate.

Im intending to hop, so thats why everything is so heavy.

I am also building tubular upper A-arms.

Depending on how low you wanna go, it would be advisable to put 2" drop spindles, tubular upper a-arms, and also 2" drop lower control arms.

I am running firestone 2600 bags up front, I am going to upgrade to HS8 Slam Bags when I get the money.

If you wanna set of tubular Upper A-arms, mail me for some pics.

Later Dude and goodluck.

I don't plan on hoppin her around, I just want an economical way to drop the front down to 4 1/2". Every set of springs i install are noisy, and really rough riding. I don't plan on getting the rear bags until april or so, but I need the front asap. What is a low cost/safe/relatively simple way to bag just the front without doing a lot of fabricating? I don't need fast valves or any of that stuff now, just the bags, and install hardware (enough to be comfortable for a while).

I'm currently in the process of bagging mine. I've already ordered a bunch of what I need but it hasn't come in yet. I'm hoping and thinking that just a little trimming will be needed of the pocket. I'm thinking of running 2600's up front cause i have the 318. I know the 2600's are like an inch or two wider than 2500's but i've seen people with 2500's with a v8 and couldn't get any lift out of them. If you want to go cheap then get the bags and mounting brackets up front (their like 200-300 dollars) and just manual inflate or deflate them into you have the money to get the valves. I would not skim on the valves cause they are pretty important You can do 2 3 position valves or 3 or 4 2 position up front depending on if you use one to dump together. You should go electric as well so you don't look so old school. I have heard firestone are good but I personally went with Phoenix cause their cheap, have a higher burst rating, and I have three rides so I can't pay out my ass for everything. Oh by the way....its a 94

Thanks for the info. Do you have a good site that has good info on the phoenix bags?
You got it, thats all I want for now. I'll add the valves in a few months along with the rear bags. If you could give me a good site suggestion, I will buy them today...thanks!

Phoenix is a German based Company and the popular line is "BigMouth" bags.....AIM industries sells them so that is why I had mixed feelings about them. I found the burst ratings and data in a Truckn magazine but who knows if it is true. I would tread very carefully with AIM cause they have a bad reputation but you can't beat the cost. Their brackets and bags are a whole lot cheaper than anybody else. If you have uneasy feelings about the bags than at least get their brackets cause how in the world can you screw up a big chunk of metal? That was my feelings anyway and I just went out on a limb and got the bags there too. Zmotive sells bags and brackets too but they are like 250 more dollars there. I wouldn't get the valves and compressors from AIM I know. Oh and another so-called benefit is if you can kill the bag you get a replacement bellow for free (but this is supposedly). I personally think they will be ok as long as you run nothing more than 150 in them but you might want to wait on mine to get here and let me inspect them and tell you about the quality first. Hack Shack also makes brackets and bags for a whole lot more money if your interested in them. They have a toll free number to call on their site. (The_Hack_Shack.com)

I found AIM. I ordered the stuff i need.
2 2500 bags (phoenix)
Brackets
line
fittings

The salesman told me that the burst rate for the phoenix's was 300lbs, but I don't believe that. He also said that if I pop them I will get a new one for free for upto a year.

Not to shabby for $295.00 shipped to my door.
Thanks Jeremy for your help and everyone else who replied.

I told you they were cheaper than hell. I didn't believe the burst rating either but they gave me the free replacement line as well.....We'll just see if I have to hold them up to it.....hopefully I will never have to run high enough pressures in them to burst them. Did you get the single 3/8 inch port?

3/8" port single.

Hopefully they hold up and lift the truck. And hopefully there isn't much cutting to do either. Would be nice if they just dropped in...that would be to lucky though. let me know how much you have to cut for your 2600's. Let me know any other problems you encounter also, that would help alot.
thanks agian

Ok I got mine in the mail today. Really superb job of shipping (4-5 days) and the quality is pretty darn good too. I know everybody says to stay away from AIM but I have to give them two thumbs up. I can tell you your going to like your bags....they are nice. I got a set of 2600 and a set of 2500's. From the looks of it 2500 will fit no questions asked, but the 2600 are a lot bulkier. I can already tell you the 2600's have a bunch more lift than the 2500's cause their so much bigger. They even sent me a crossmember to weld across my frame. Not bad at all.

Well Actually I'm heading off on a buisness trip in two days (its two weeks long....arrgggh) and I won't have access to a welder till I get back. Dammit. I'll just have to wait. They said the front brackets will bolt in but I think i'm going to tack them in for extra safety. The back have to be welded....no way around it. The 2500's will fit so damn easy. I have tore my suspension apart many times and can't see any reason why they would rub anywhere but I won't know for sure till I get back in two weeks and tear it down. Rumor has it that if anything a little trimming on the lower arm will be needed but we're talking about 5 minutes with a die grinder....piece of cake. Hmmmm looks like the hardest part will be putting in the step notch. I've already cut my bed to tuck my 20's so when I get back I should have it made.

I installed the aim kit in the front of my truck. I cut off the rubber bump stop mount just to be on the safe side. I did not have to trim the spring cup at all.
