Message: i know a guy who uses airwaves on 98 dakota and he doesn't get anywhere near as low as my 2000 with just regular bags and brackets. my front end damn near lays on the ground and he is about 2 inches higher than me . they are great because they have a shock built right in but i dont even have shocks on the front of mine and it rides great , a little floaty on the highway but hey you get the ride of a lincoln on a dakota . even though airwaves are a direct bolt in you still have to trim your a arm to keep from rubbing your bag. in fact my bags were probably just as easy to put in . just bolt my bags to my brackets and set them in place of my coils, and a little trimming of my a arms. bagged tagged and ready to eat road reflectors. steve

Message: Thanks Steve, but I've already have the complete kit coming in from Air Ride Technologies with Shockwaves going on the front. I'll see how they do, and may be put a picture of the truck on-line. Oh, by the way, what kind of kit are you running on the rear of your Dakota?

Message: Actually it's pretty cool that you're going to run those . Not alot of people have them. Just out of curiousity, what size ports are on those. In the rear I'm running firestone 2600s, step notch and 4 link. I had no intentions on cutting up my frame but Ihave been rearended twice in the last 6 months so i said what the hell . My friend who helped me do it is areally good welder .He also a certified mechanic at the Dodge dealership so I trust his hands on my truck. i have'nt got my rims yet but, they're coming soon. I'm going to run 18 inch lexani krystals. They're sweet. Oh by the way I'm running nitrogen instead of air. i tried a compresser and tank setup but it was way too slow. Idid'nt have the extra $$$ to throw down on a big daddy compresser. C-Ya STEVE .

Message: If I'm not mistaken, I think they are 3/8 ports. I just recieved the kit today and by the looks of it, it shouldn't be to big of a deal to put on. I too went with a 4-link rear, but for now I'm only going to C-notch the frame and then build "boxes" around the notch for added strength. I didn't want to totally cut the frame just yet, and I'm running 17" Budnicks with a pretty good-sized tire, so I think that I'll have to trim the fender lip to get them to tuck. Later on, I might go with the step notch and down size my rear tire to help it lay some frame. Keep in touch and I'll keep you posted on the progress on the drop job. With the holidays coming, I doubt I will have a whole lot of time to spend out in the shop, but I'll make the most of it. Later, Chet.

Message: Ok, you guys seam to know a lot of what your doing. I have a Y2K dakota that I want lowered, but i don't want it always low, Just when i want it to be. SO i thought going with an airbag system would be good. First I don't want to cut frame or anything like that. I just need to know do i need to change spindles or anything like that with an airbag system?

Message: well there are no spindals available for the 97-02 dakota's. instead they have a lowered A-arm. since you dont want to cut the frame you will only be able to drop it 6" in the rear and the axle will be on the frame. so dont bother with the A-arms.
with such a mild drop, why not just lower it? bagging a truck, will cost A LOT more money and you will only be able to go as low as a drop kit will (without cutting the frame)
you might (almost definatly) have problems with air leaks, and unless you 4-link the rear ($600-800 for just the parts for that) it will not ride all that great

Message: Dakotas look great with just a mild drop for the simple fact that they are so hi from the factory .I would just recommend a mild drop unless you're wanting to throw major sparks with that mutha . I slammed the hell out of my 00 dak and it road like all HELL. so i just went ahead and bagged mine . Go ahead bag it, you know you want to! L8r Steve

Message: Yeah I'd go with the Air Ride. I've currently running a 3/5 on my '98 and I'm not real impressed with the ride, that's why I decided to run the Air Ride set-up. In fact, I plan on driving the truck almost daily. Sure the price may be high, but I think the versatiltiy will be worth the price. If you don't want to cut the frame do to the "newness" of your Dakota, don't worry about it. It will only void the warranty on your frame, and Air Ride Technologies has a complete bolt on kit for your Dakota so you can put the whole system in without the "C-notch" and never touch a saws-all, torch, or welder.

Message: Like hiproglo said, no you don't have to change the A-arms if you don't want to. I'm using Air-Ride "shockwaves" and the guy I dealt with at Air-Ride told me that these kits for the front can be used with stock A-arms or aftermarket (he should know, he has a '00 QC Dakota with these on the front). I'm going to use lowered A-arms for that added drop in the front, since I'm notching the frame in the rear. Just take in to consideration how low you want to go, and then make your decision on which type of kit your going to use (Air Bags or Lowering Kit). Like I said before, I'm using a 3/5 right now on my '98 CC. The ride isn't terrible, but I think that it could be a little better. I also have a '92 RC Dakota with a 4/6 on it that uses spindles and dropped springs and it rides alot better than the '98. I wish someone would make a good spindle for the Gen III, but they don't, so I spent the cash and went with bags.
