 Subject: Tires for 8" wide rims

How narrow of a tire can I put on my 18x8 rims? I have 235/50/18 on there now, and it rubs a little in front, so i'm wondering if i get narrower tires if it'll rub less, since it seems like it rubs mostly on the outside of the tires against the outside edge of the fenders. But mainly, i'd like to know if a 215 tire will fit nicely on the rims without somehow being a pain-in-the-ass, or without looking stupid. (i have a friend w/ a bagged firebird that put skinny-ass tires on his rims so he'd tuck more and it looks like sh*t; the rims bigger than the damn tires!) this is what i don't want.
