Message: The rear-end will ride slightly rougher with blocks, but it makes cornering noticeably better.:) I have 2" AIM blocks and it's noticeable.
$350 for it all to be installed, or are you gonna install it yourself? Eitherway, $350 seems like a good price, especially since shocks are included.:)
GO FOR IT!

Message: yup, im doing the install all by myself... i wanted shackles and hangers, but they are a lil too expensive right now. me and a couple of friends installed shackles/hangers/shocks.coils on a silverado last weekend (took us 12 hours and 2 cases of beer) so the install shouldnt be a problem...
i found a shop in dallas that beats list prices on most performance parts, hes selling me toxic shocks for 39 bucks a peice - a 40$ difference total alone...
how are the AIM blocks holding up?

Message: I gotta kinda agree w/ 97grndak. You're not saving much w/ the shocks, several places should sell them for around 40 apiece. My Pep Boys blocks have held up for a couple years, they were about $30. and Springs: well DJM r about 110, i got mine from chassis tech for 69 (and have been great even w/ a 1/2 coil cut off.) But these prices are w/o shipping.
I'd go w/ only the shocks from him, but MAKE SURE they're the right ones for you! that will decide how it'll ride! So, that makes $160. blocks take it to 200. so it depends on the springs: Chassis Tech= about $300. DJM= should still be under $350.
SO, Hope this helps.

Message: I had some bad experience with the Pep-Boy's blocks... They're cast-aluminum, which is not a good material to be placed on the curved surface of the leafspring where it sits. Mine lasted 2 days and cracked. The bolts holding the plate were only torqued to 75lbs/ft each.

Message: Yeh, i've heard that about em; maybe me & my friend just got good ones, but whichever u go with, they're all around $30-40. (AIM's are 29+overpriced shipping). & what's kinda funny, (maybe just to me) back when i put my blocks in, i have no clue what i torqued them to. :)

BTW, you're right about the overpriced shipping... The bastards took 10 days to arrive @ my doorstep! Last time I payed too much for shipping & handling was when I got my Intense Performance intake, and it only took 3 days to arrive.

Message: well he's giving me about 40 dollars off of list price total,it may be like 320 or something, i dunno. 89 bucks for the steel blocks, im not willing to risk other ones breaking, then 30 dollars off like whatever djm list for the coils... i thought the shocks were a good deal, since i dont pay shipping or anything...
i appreciate the input!!!

Message: I dunno, that just seems like a good price; shocks are around $50 each, brand-new coils are kinda pricey.. $150 for a set, and STEEL blocks are around $100. That comes out to $450 total. So $320 seems good.

Message: Hey, blakdak, I live in the DFW area... Hot Rod Harry's is nice, but when I was there, I couldn't find anything for my Dak really worth getting... The price they are asking isn't bad, but maybe you could find a better price, just look around elsewhere... Especially the internet.
And dmagoo, here's how blocks work: You jack the truck up by the center of the axle, lifting both tires off the ground slighty, position jackstands on both sides to hold the truck up, after they're in place jack it back down, remove the stock u-bolts... the lowering block kit comes with(2 blocks, neccessary bolts/washers, new and longer u-bolts), after the stock u-bolts are off, you jack the axle up again and it'll lift it off the leaf springs... You place the blocks between the axle and leafspring on each side, jack the axle back down, put the new u-bolts on, and bolt em up tight. Then you lower the truck back down to the ground and torque the bolts to around 85-90lbs/ft. Most people reccommend 100lbs/ft. but everytime I do that much, it causes some problems... Either the blocks cracking, or the u-bolts stripping... Anyways, what blocks do is lift the axle higher into the frame, causing the rear-end to ride lower. Blocks will give a rougher ride, but improve the cornering slightly. I am planning on a 3/5 drop, here's how I'm gonna do it:
DJM 3" lower control arms, Hotchkis 3" sport leafs w/ 2" AIM lowering blocks, and Bilstein front/rear shocks. I think I'm also gonna need a C-notch... A c-notch is when you cut into the frame above the axle, and weld in a frame support, to give more clearance so the axle doesen't smack into the frame when you hit a bump.

Message: guys....... be careful, money shouldnt be the issue here. You are messing with a trucks suspension. A truck that weighs a WHOLE LOT! A truck that could do alot of damage if something breaks on it. Also think about your ride quality. Just be careful..... you say you dont have the money, maybe you should wait a while and save the money to do it right. Trust me, you will be much happier and save money over time if you do it right the 1st time. Just my thoughts.....

Message: Blackdak20, u sound just like me when i warned my friend about baggin his s10. He bagged w/ just enough $$ to not have any left over if something went wrong. Of course, it did. Well, after about 4 months, an alternator, a compressor, and other pains-in-the-ass... well... now he's driving a new PROTEGE' that he's keeping completely stock. DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU! it's very sad. But i have to add that cheap isn't always crap. My drop was pretty cheap, and will probably hold up like anyone else's. But maybe i'm just lucky. But most of the time u prolly get what u pay for. & yes i know im contradicting myself, but its late and im tired. PEACE.
