Subject: The best 4/5 drop?
IP: Logged

Message:
I got a 2000 Dakota RC 4.7L 5-speed 2wd. I am interested in lowering my dakota 4/5 and still use my stock 15X8 wheels. I have been told that some lowering kits require larger wheels. Does anyone know of a good kit or a combination of kits to allow this type of drop without requiring larger wheels? Also what would be the cost of the parts required?
Thanks for the help.

If you get this 4/5 drop, 1st things 1st your bed is gonna b flying in the air. I just lowered my quad cab 3/5 and the rear is still about an inch higher than the front. Next, my truck is an 02 w/ the 16" wheel and tire package, I have to do some fender work, when the road all of a sudden sort of drops fast, my wheel will come up and rub the fender flare/inner fender. So you will have to get lower profile front tires. There is a way to fix this with the 3/5 drop but im not sure about a 4" front w/ stock tires. Now if you really want to do this drop I would recomend a 4/6. DJM makes a kit to do this. If you get this kit, you will put ALOT of money into it to make it work with stock wheels and tires. I would call DJM and make sure that your wheels will work with this kit. I called them about the 3" lower arm and the older style wheels do not work with this arm. Yours being a 00 i believe it will work. But just call and make sure. The kit is about $700 plus shocks I believe. Then labor will probly be about $400-500 unless you know someone that will help you out. Plus if you go with the 4" front you will need new tires. If you go with the 3" front, you can use stock tires. Here are some websites to check out, www.stylinconcepts.com - that is where I ordered my drop kit from, and.... www.djmsuspension.com.

Thanks for the info BlackDak20.
I agree that the 4/6 may look better on some trucks, but I do not want to have to use a c-section on the frame. I also kind-of like the foward lean of the stock suspension. I do not mind having to change the size of the front tires slightly, but I do want to keep the rear tires the same so I do not increase the RPM's of the engine on the interstate because I have 3.92 gears in the rear. Has anyone heard of using a 2" djm control arm and 2" hotchkits coils in the front for a 4" drop and good handling?

I have also noticed some other photos of a dakota on this website that said it had a 5/5 drop. It looked as if it had stock 15 inch wheels. Does anyone have any information on this truck?
