what do you guys think of this for a set-up for a 1/2 drop??? this is the first time i've lowered. so any input would be a big help.

(i have a '97 3.9l and plan to put r/t rims with 255/55/17 tires in the very near future.)

-djm 3in. drop coils.(is everyone getting 1-1.5 in. of drop off these coils?)
-djm 2in. blocks
-belltech nitro drop shocks

was going to go with the 3/5 drop but reading way too many posts with tire rubbing and bottom out problems. thinking i'll be pretty pissed if $600 later plus all the work involved and i tear it off after i tear up a set of tires or something worse. plus this is my daily driver and i can't afford to not have it driveable for more than a few days.

thanx ahead of time for any input and all the knowledge i've gotten from all your posts!

nothing wrong with the 3/5 kit. if you want 1" in
the front, I wouldnt count on the 3" DJM coils
doing that in every application. try a set of R/T
coils, they come 1" lower from the factory and
is probably a better spring. 2" blocks would
work fine, but if you dont mind spending the
extra cash, you could pick up a set of hotchkis
leafs for the same effect, but better (if you
know what I mean)

the r/t springs was the way i wanted to go if i go with 1 in. drop in front. my only concern is my truck is a v6 and the weight differance might not give me a drop at all. if i'm wrong someone let me know. if you think this won't be the case can you get the springs from mopar or better yet does anyone have any sitting around they want to sell?

what are the best shocks i can get for around $35-$40 apiece.

anyone know where to get a good set of bushings for my control arms (stock) and a new grease boot for my tie rod? Damn dealer overfilled it.

will there be enough ground clearance with 2 in. blocks and a lakewood traction bar on the leafs?

Wayne,

Once the r/t coils springs have settled, they should drop you the 1 inch. You might want to buy used (already broken-in), new springs might not settle down enough due to your truck weighing less.

Best shocks for the price you want to pay are the Doetsch tech. I've been very happy with mine and recommend them to anyone. Is yours a single cab or club cab? Mine is a single cab and the rear shocks were too stiff for my ride. I changed out the rear Doetsch shocks for stock r/t shocks. This was a perfect combination for my truck, Doetsch in the front and r/t in the rear. www.sporttruckdirect.com

The lakewood traction bars should have no problems with ground clearance with a two inch drop. I know many folks running a 3" drop and Caltracs bars with no problems.

RT front coils won't drop the front of your truck.
In fact, they'll probably RAISE it an inch or so.
I installed CC RT coils in my QC 4.7 and it
stayed same height as stock. I had to cut the
RT coils down in order to get a front drop.

Not to flame anyone, but I don't buy into the
"new coils need to settle" concept. Springs
are made of tempered steel. They might
settle a TINY bit, but not more than 1/8" or so.
If springs settled over time, all ten year old
cars and trucks would be riding on the bump
stops.

Do a seach for "RT coils" or "RT spings" for
more info.

Hope this helps,
Lemmers

Wayne,
I did a 1"/2" drop on my '01 V6 QC with a 1/2 coil cut on each front spring and 2" blocks in the rear. I have 17's with 285/60's. The ride is basically unchanged and I'm very satisfied. Email me and I'll reply with a picture.

Weight is a big problem with the R/T springs as said before. If you do not have an equivalent engine weight to a 5.9l. The truck will not sit any lower. I tried to put my R/T suspension on my fathers V6 and the front went up a 1/2 higher than it was stock. You will have to order springs to match your engine weight. Check Hotchkis. They make springs for V6 Daks.
