Message: the 3" djm align fine, the heel/toe is all you
need to adjust. you can redrill the holes 1/4" -
3/8" longer where the upper control arm is
mounted to adjust the camber/caster, but is
not needed.

click on the "dakota pics" file.
if you want to warn against certain lowering
parts, dont use AIM!

Message: Have you measured your specs or did DJM replace the arms. I'll agree that AIM is a NO-NO on every thing!!! But I have taken my truck to several alignment shops from laser guide to the old school pit racks and it's been said time and time again....junk!! And how about those nice 1.5" splash sheild remover bump stops that DJM is to cheap to upgrade. No customer service, No alignment equals DON'T RECOMMEND THEM !!! "D" do you work for DJM??? If so shorten the length and ship them with at least 2.5" stops. I only have 17's God help the guys with 20's!!

Message: yeah i called them, no I didnt work for them,
anything more than a 2" control arm drop,
requires some custom fabricating. This
includes drilling. how is your tire wear so
far??? have you seen dakotas on bags? do
the wheels look straight? NO! anything more
than a 2" drop on a dakota is almost
impossible to align perfectly. Mine doesnt fit
on most alignment racks, and yes I had it
done with lasers, and yes they said the
camber was off, and no, my tires havent worn
irregular (8000 miles later) I could eventually
adjust the camber, but that would require
tearing apart the suspension, pulling off the
upper control arms, and redrilling the holes
1/4" to 3/8" longer, not worth it.
Have you seen Hotchkis alignment specs?
they actually recomend a slight "tilt" for better
perfromance. bump stops? what are you
talking about, those 2.5" low profile
bumpstops work perfectly, I have only
bottomed out once (in the front) and they did a
fine job.
I would post my alignment specs, but I lost the
reciept :(

Message: The nitto NT450 only last 12,000 on the front and the rears have 23,000 so i'd say that DJM's claim to keeping the stock geometry is B>S and yes the 2.5" bumpstops are fine BUT DJM ships the 3" arm with 1.5" not 2.5" and when I called them to exchange them they wanted to charge me for the correct ones. I've built over 30 show trucks and since this posting was to inform the novice who can rely on a manufacture to give them a product that bolts on and doesn't require drilling out this and welding that. If you go with air bags or hydros then hell yeah no alignment but once you get older and build reliable daily drivers you want your tires to last and the parts to fit. It's pretty bad when no alignment shop will slot and cut to make it align because unlike a Chevy fullsize there are not knock outs and NO ONE should have to butcher their truck to get a part to work. If they want to do that then buy an AIM part for half of the DJM and get out the torch and welder. If anything more than 2" can't be aligned then they need to state that up front as a pair of most of the custom tires I use cost more than the control arms did to start with. I's suggest a 2" dropped spindle and a 1" dropped coil with at least a 17" wheel so it won't grind on the lower a-arm (another type of headache).

wheels would rub ?

Message: First you'll hear a "ROORBB" sound followed by a "POP" as the tire catches the 1 inch lip and bends it down into a half inch downward V that will chew the tire side walls to shreads. You'll spend lots of time with a wooden ball bat rolling the fender back up and testing your vocabulary... Since Dakotas have a wide wheel base and an odd offset just about any large wheel (including the R/T stocker) will rub. According to other mag' featured friends a 2" drop can get the same nightmare at highway speeds. Only solution is to limit the upward travel but using a 3"+ bumpstop. Unfortunatly I have not been able to find a single bolt 3" stop so I use an off road 2.5" with alot of fender washers.

Message: Has any one used the dropped upper & lower control arm set up by aim? they even make an adjustable upper for better a alignment. (I think its aim)I have a 3" djm drop coil in the front now but the ride is a little rough and was thinking of trying the control arms for a smoother ride.

Message: I have a 02 quad cab with the djm 3" lower control arms. I did have to cut my fender flare out a bit then i put about 2.75" bump stops on, and i cut out a bit of the steering stop on the arm and i have no problems now. I have the 16" wheel with the 29" tall tire. Rides great, there was no problem with the alignment. My tires wore worse before the truck was lowered.
