Subject: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IP: Logged
Message: I want to make my truck look and run really nice, but I know nothing about modifying appearance or performance or anything. I have a question about lowering. I went to a place and asked them about it. I told them I want it lowered, but not REALLY low like some people have it, I don't want to scrape curbs or have to go really slow over bumps or anything. They guy suggested a 2x4 drop. I asked them how much it would cost for them to do it. This is what he wrote down: 2x4 Drop - Springs & shackle hanger & shocks & alignment & labor @ 900.00 OTD. First of all, I don't know what any of that stuff means. Also, what does OTD mean? Can someone let me know if this is a reasonable price? If not, can someone recommend a place where I can go? I live in McKinney, TX and I am also in Allen and Plano, TX all the time. So if someone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. And remember, I'm not a mechanic, I have no tools, I know nothing about this stuff, so don't recommend me do it myself. Thanks
Chris Rodriguez Jr.

Message: i was going to get mine lowered and they wanted $700 for a 4/6 drop i live in fort smith arkansas, but it seems a bit to high.i think for a 2/4 drop they would go with the control arms up front and not springs cause if you go springs you would have to align the front,if you go control arms it would save money on aligning the front and taking the frontend apart more to put springs on.OTD i don't really know what that means but i'm just gonna go all out on this one and say (Our Top Dollar).well i'm not gonna put the mechanics down on this but they are just doing there job eventhough sometimes some places are a little steep,i would defanitly look around.well thats all i can say but there's alot of people here that no what there talking about, everyone this is still open for suggestions.i have a 2001 dakota cc i was getting a 4/6 now i'm getting a 3/5 maybe i wont rub,its like you want looks but you don't want it to ride low and rub on everything like a car does, there trucks

Message: Wheteher you use control arms or sjust springs, you are taking apart the same things in the front. In order to get to the springs you have to take the lower control arm loose and let it swing down. (the spring sits in the pocket of the control arms) So the labor I would assume would be a bit more to replace the control arm because that's a few more bolts to take it completely off.
OTD- I have no clue what this is suppose to mean. As far as prices for labor, that I don't know either, I did mine myself, though I will say that $900 seems kinda high. What kind of parts did they quote? And what brand?

Message: OTD = "Out The Door", your estimated total cost to take the truck out the garage door after they do all the work stated on the invoice.

Message: One thing to think about is ride quality. Most all of the "bargain drop kits" use springs in the front. From personal experience (my trucks and my partners) an arm or spindle drop will have the same ride as before because it uses the same old springs. But in order to keep the shorter spring from bottoming your truck, it's made stiffer. Some of those can be brutal on the back, AND on the backside. My first dropped truck was a Mitsu (no, I'm not proud of the fact that I actually OWNED a rice burner) with 3" drop springs. Hell I coulda taken the bumpstops out, the springs were so stiff I never woulda touched 'em.

Message: there is a place called drop zone in arlington, i wish i had some contact info on them...
obvioulsy, you odnt know much about suspension, so doing it yourself wouldnt be an option....
i have the email of a really good suspension guy in plano, his costs are a lil expensive on labor, but wont be nearly 900 bucks, and he does it completely right... enmail me at kamezzle13@usa.com if you want more info!

Message: Chris Jr.,
if you want to keep the cost low, then buy 3" blocks for the back and 2" lowering coils for the front. I live in N. Richland Hills (pretty close to you) and i can help you if you need help.
