Subject: Droping a 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I just want to know if anybody had any information on lowering kits for a 2001 club cab 4x4. I have heard that there is an airbag set up out but no news on whos making it. I also know that moter trend did an article on a lowered durango but no news on whos making theres either.
If anyone knows anything, it would be greatly appreciated.
regards, Mark

Message: I was thinking of a 3/5 drop, but I would be happy with a 2/4 just to close up some of that wheel gap. I also want put on either a set of 18's of 20's depending on the drop.

Message: The problem is that the front is a torsion bar. You can crank down on the torsion bar but that reduces the spring rate. The lower you go, the less spring you have. It can result in very slopy handling, floaty ride and bottoming out hard. I have a 4x4 Durango. I only went down 1" in front and used blocks in the rear. I also have Hotchkis swaybars and Bilstein shock which help my front end. There are a few Durango owners who have gone down 3" in front. A couple have not been happy with the front end ride. DJM used to have a 3" drop kit but it involved them machining the front control arms, required larger wheels and cost over 1k. I heard that they are not offering it any more.

Message: I thought about the torsion bars, but then I have to change the shocks. Its not a big deal, but what kind of a shock would be good?

Message: I'm no shock expert. Depends on how far down you go. You don't want the shock to bottom out. It will obviously ruin the shock and possibly damage the mounting points. There are a number of shocks that are used by the lowered truck crowd. I've seen the brand names in magazines. I could not say what ones are good. I'm sure there are recommendations in this forum.

Message: I also am interested in lowering a 4x4 cc. havnt researched it too much figured i start here. rack and pinion a problem like with lifted trucks? So theres no real kit to lower huh? I'm not a big fan of rigged things when going over a 100 mph.
