Subject: Backspacing: 18x8.5 IP: Logged
Message: I just ordered my rims (18x8.5) from TireRack, and they come with a 22mm offset.
The rep claims that they're a perfect fit for my Dak, and here's how I calculated the backspacing:
Half the width of the rim - bead to bead (4 1/4") + 22mm offset (approx 1") + distance from the bead seat to the outside of the rim (1/2"?) = 5 3/4".
Am I right? Will this work correctly? I'm going with a 2/3 drop, although I'm not sure exactly how, yet. Up front, I'm leaning toward coils, cuz it's only two inches, and A-arms seem like a lotta work and expense. Out back, I REALLY want to use lowering leaf springs, but I'm having trouble finding anything other than Hotchkis, which I've heard (many times) that the ride is even STIFFER than stock, which I'm not willing to live with. I've also heard (again... many MANY times) that the shackles/hangers are a pain in the a$$ to install.
As far as tires, I'd like to run 255/55/18's all around, if they're not gonna rub.... ANYWHERE. I'm not too concerned with the tires actually sticking out, cuz I have the R/T flares.
If any of y'all have experience with this, let me know what you think. I'll just sit here and salivate, waiting for my rims to get here.

Message: Haven't had the opportunity to sell 'em, yet.....
It'll likely be a week or so until I get my rims, then I'll have to look into tires.....
and I haven't even lowered my truck yet.
I AM, however, kinda hopin' ta get $400 for the rims AND tires..... when I'm prepared to sell.
Know anyone? Hmmm......?

Message: broheem, i just ordered some chassis tech lowered leaf springs. they are alot cheaper than the hotchkis. i got the 3" but they have other sizes too. ive heard bad things about chassis tech, but my friend has some of their components and they are just as good as the others. o and they claim to have stock ride conditions. i am gonna be lowering my truck 3/5 this weekend if i get all the parts in on time. i got western chassis lowered control arms, and springs and chassistech lowered leafs and angled blocks for the rear. ill let you know how they are if i get to install this weekend.
later

Whataya think about this offset.... will it fly?
5.75 seems like it... 255/55/18's?

Message: if 5.75 is the backspacing it will look good. my 17's had that BS but were 8" wide. if yours are 8.5" wide they will stick out 1/2" more than my 17's, but since you have the R/T flares, it will look really good.
you will LOVE the handling!
what tires are you thinking about going with?

Message: At this point, I'm leaning toward the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros. I've seen the Toyo's, the Michelin's and the a couple of others, but the Pirelli's have the best reviews, an acceptable price, and I like the way they look.
Anyone got any more suggestions? I'm not solid on this choice, but I don't see any others that I like more....
