If you try and use the factory control arms, they will bottom out on the frame and not let you go to the ground. Take a look at my truck.

are you a daily driver? Do you think I could use 2"

I have Western Chassis 2" drop control arm on my bagged 1998 Dakota. Its a daily driver, it lays the crossmember out no problems. I don't believe any drop spindles are made for Gen III Dakota and if you have a source please tell me. I don't think I would go with the 3" drop arms for a daily driver my truck tends scrape those every once a while.

i have seen more than one dakota laying frame on 17's with the STOCK A-arm. if you go with a bigger rim, you migh have to do it, but i have also talked to a guy that is laying frame on 20's and he says he has the stock A-arms.

why not just bagg it with the stock arms, and if it dosent lay, then buy them? it could save you $200+

you cant tuck any rim without cutting out the wheel well, because the fronts are verry shalow.

aftermarket rims always look better than stock rims.

so you are saying the fender is covering a portion of your rim when looking at it from the side?? arent you running a 40 series tire? no way it will tuck.. do you have pics?

do you mean they tuck (the opisite of sticking out) of the wheel well?

I am saying that the fron wheels go up in the fenderwells and sit on the plastic inner fenderwell liner. For some reason the front cambers enough for them to tuck...not sure why, I was told that they wouldn't. The rear is no where close to tucking...I need more backspacing for that....and I'll still have to cut or roll the fenderlip with that extra backspacing. I might just narrow the rear end!

You will need 6.25 to 6.5 inches of backspacing to tuck. Alba wheels makes every wheel they have in our bolt pattern.

check it out. this chick is lay'd out on 20's and is tucking a little bit of rim. she had to cut out her whole fender to do it, and its still not tucking that much. im not calling you a liar, but i dont see how you can tuck a 17" when she is haveing a hard time tucking a 20"

Take a look at this too

http://home.satx.rr.com/dakotart

Also just as a reminder, I am running 235/40-17 tires which are only 24" in diameter. Even a 20" with the smallest tire, a 245/35-20 is still 26.75 inches in diameter which is a full 2.75 inches more to deal with.

that is what i was talking about. the tire comes to the top of the wheel well and stops. that is because the dakotas wheel well goes from the lip straight back. there is no area that can tuck a tire let a lone a rim.

yes the 20's are bigger. that is my point in my previous post. the chick's truck was bairly tucking them (a portion of the rim was covered by the fender where you could not see it) yours camber's in. which makes it sit back into the wheel well DEEPER, but it does not tuck the rim. you also have the flares which make the wheel well look even smaller.

no doubt that your truck is tight, i think we are just talking about two differant things

We are on two different pages. When I talk about tucking, I am refering to the wheel/tire combo. I told him that you need 6.25 to 6.5 inches of backspacing on the wheel to tuck, which is true. If you have less backspacing, you will hit the lip for the rear fender...actually the wheel/tire combo would stick out about 1/4 inch past the side of the body. You can't tuck actual rim on a 17" wheel with a Dakota unless you have a Body Drop greater than 3.5 inches.

Do you have any pics? I bet those cost you a pretty penny!! What width and backspacing did you get.I was gonna get some Colorado Customs, but they said that they couldn't make the 8" wheel with 6.5" of backspacing.....and that was the reps at Texas Heat Wave so I am guessing they knew what they were talking about?

i work for costco wholesale, in the tire center. when i need new tires, i just pro-rate the old ones at 100%.
