Subject: Dropping Daks for Dummies IP: Logged
Message: Hi All,
I've been following this board for a little while now but haven't been able to get a definite answer. I've got a V8 5.2L '97 Sport Xcab and considering a modest drop of 2 front 3 rear (or at least ballpark to that).
I want to know if someone could point me to a faq on lowering. I want to know what methods/parts work best. I've priced out two different kits. One included a whole bunch of parts including leafs, spindles and more....it ran $1600 (Canadian). The second kit was basically coils and blocks for $300.
It would seem clear to me that you get what you pay for in terms of quality. What are the advantages/drawbacks of both these kits?
Much appreciated,
TJ

Message: I checked on the Ground Force 2/3 drop kit for my 99 2wd Dak and was told a price of $1001.00. Not installed.
That price was from a local shop here in eastern Canada who gets their stuff from the same place as Crappy Tire (Keystone). Where did you get one for $500 bucks at?

Message: I'm sure someone else has talked about this before, but since you guys were on the sublect anyway... I have a 2000 QC 4.7 V8 with the stock 15" rims. I want to drop it a bit, but not slammed... more for better handling. I would be getting a little bit bigger rims and tires before getting what I need to drop my dak, but I don't think I want to go as big as 20's...I don't know if I even want to go as big as 18's. From a 15 to an 18 seems like quite a bit of a jump to me? Anyway, is there a kit or a preferred product for quads? S~

I came up with that part number from GroundForce. Says it is the complete kit for the 2000+ dakota quad cab. Is this right? The page I found it at wasn't very discriptive, and you couldn't actually order it from that page??? Who should I go through to buy the kit, I'm assuming I can't just go to autozone and order one up? How much SHOULD this "complete kit" cost, and what all should it include? (obviously never done this kind of thing before) Page also claims "DIY at home" Does that mean that I have to go buy a lift and put it in my garage? Or, can I get the neighbors kid to hold the front end up while I change the stuff out? (HA)
I know I know I left myself open for "Whadda ya mean ya don't have a lift in yer garage???" Sorry, I just moved out of the barracks. semper fi
