Well, it looks like I am going to lower my truck 2/3 eventually and I know nothing about drops. My question is this: I have a set of Rancho s5000 shocks that I haven't installed yet. Will they be compatible with a drop, or do I have to go with shocks specifically designed for drop kits?

I'm not familiar with the Rancho's, but as a general rule a "normal" shock will not work on more than a 2" drop. It might be worth an email to the manufacturer just to be sure though.

it would work but they would last as long...

when i first lowered my truck (about 2/3) i used all the stock shocks and did alright. when i dropped it more it killed my back shocks (spilled their guts) and the front shocks wore out.

I have a belltech 2-3 drop and I am very pleased. The kit uses nitro drop shocks.

I am using the Monroe Light Truck performance shocks from Autozone... not the best for a lowered truck because they wear out in six months but hey! Autozone has lifetime warranties on these things! hehehe
i am on my third set now!

Intense Greg, did you say you could no longer use Lakewoods with your drop? How low did you go? I want to go 2/3, and I have a brand spanking new chrome set just begging to go on. I sure hope I can still use them when it gets dropped.

Intense Chuck, I showed the shocks (fronts) to my mechanic, he said they should be fine as I don't want to go lower than 2". Thanks for all your advice on the rims. They really are beautiful and once I get the drop and perhaps some flares, they should be exactly what I wanted. :)

hehehe... intense greg/chuck

they didnt work with my lowering at first because i was using blocks. that puts the leaf closer to the ground and was too low or the bars would hit the ground.... now i can use them because they would be useless with my new setup. Ladder Bars are the best kind of "traction bar"... them and 4 links.
