Subject: Does anyone have a 0/2 drop? IP: Logged
Message: I am thinkning I want to drop just the rear of my Dak QC 2". I do not want to sacrifice the ride or towing ability. I just do not like the giant gap at the rear wheel wells. It seems that most everyone that drops the front has rubbing and turning radius problems. (I could 1/3. However, I'm not that concerned with the stock looks of the front.)
Has anyone done this (0/2)? Does it look level? I see a lot of references to a 3/5 drop or a 2/4 drop. So I'm thinking that a 2" difference would be OK.
I guess the easiest/cheapest way would be to use 2" blocks. Would using 2" shackles be that much better than blocks? It sure seems like a lot of work.
Will I need to worry about the drive shaft angle with this limited drop?
Thanks for your input.

Message: With 2 inch blocks your leaf springs will be lower
to the ground. If you have ever seen a set up
using excessive blocks, it looks retarded.
Shackles however keep the springs right on the
differential, where they should be and move the
eyes of the springs closer to the box.
2 inches int much of a drop but it will level the
ride. why not look at plus size wheel and tyre
combos to fill your gaps rather than
dropping?????

Message: When I first got my Dak in 99 I immediately put 2 inch blocks in the rear. Made it handle real well, it sat fairly level, about 1/4 inch lower in the rear. It looks nice though, I dropped the front of mine 2' and had a heck of a time stopping the fender rubbing. Go for it, its cheap and if you dont like it, either lower the front a little or take the blocks off. If you want it to sit perfectly level or with a little rake, buy 2" blocks and cut about 3/8 to a 1/2 inch off.

I guess if I use the shackles, the drive shaft angle will not change. What about the drive shaft angle using the blocks?

Message: Just went outside and looked. Mine is almost completely straight, I think you would have a better chance of wearing out UV joints quicker with the stock height than with it lowered 2"

Message: I just did a 2" block kit on the back of mine and it sits about 1/4-1/2" too low. I wwould like to do a 1" drop up front to make it look right but I can't find any 1" drop springs. I may either cut mine to get the 1" or just go down 3" in the front and another 2" in the rear.

Message: If you wanna level it, measure from the top of the rim to the bottom of the fender opening in the front & rear & drop the back end 1" less than the difference. For example, my back end is about 3" higher than the front, so a 2" drop would level it out, but still leave the back sitting slightly higher.

Message: i just put a 2 inch lowering block in my 98 dakota,it came out perfectly level. I measured the height by measuring from the ground to the bottom of the fender in the wheel well.it came out perfect, made a big handling difference.the kit cost me about 30.00 bucks, cheap investment for a good look.

Message: Steve
What block kit did you use? I bought one at Pep boys the other day, but the U bolts were not big enough so it took it back.
