Hey everyone. I would like to lower my 2000 RT Club Cab. But i am not for sure how much i want to lower it, and what company to go with. I like the Hotchkis kits. Any luck with them? I dont want to have to worry about hitting anything so i dont want anything crazy. Any sugestions will help. Thanx.

Dont mind those gaymos.

Since when has lowering a truck made it a "ricer"?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but lowriders have been around alot longer than ricers. Need i say the handling of the truck improves?

Try DJM or BELLTECH.

The Hotchkis kit is by far the best and most popular drop kit for the Dodge Dakota because it was designed to increase the handling of the truck, not just drop it.

As long as you're running tires underneath 29" in diameter in back and 28.5" in front (the stock R/T rim/tire is 28.04") you will be just fine without rubbing.

I have heard that if i change the leaf springs in the back that i wont be able to haul anything at all. I have a friend that changed those and they didnt hold his truck up at all, it was competly slammed.

That is one of the reasons i am looking at lowering my truck is for more handling. Not that Rt's dont handle well already. Im sure you know all that though.

I love your truck could you also tell me what bed cover you have, sincityrt.
Thanx
Jake

The tonneau is made by Innovation Fiberglass - www.innovationfiberglass.com. The tonneau comes prepped, painted, shipped, mounted, etc. for about $1100. (so about $700 for the tonneau itself).

No leaks or problems at all, it is a very high quality tonneau. Another bonus is the underside is carpeted so it matches my Bedrug.

I have the quick release hinges, so there is no drilling at all - some guide plates are bolted onto your rails and then the tonneau just pops on and off through a couple of tabs.

You have been a big help. But i have a few more questions. What lowering kit, if any, how much of a drop did you go with, and do you have any pro with hitting or scraping on anything?

Thanx alot.

My truck has the Hotchkis TVS Suspension system which lowers a Dakota 2/4. Since R/T's are already 1" lower from the factory it's more of a 1/3 drop but it still looks nice. What's nice about this kit is it is a handling package that happens to drop the truck down a bit, other drop kits just lower the vehicle.

I have never rubbed with this combo, but I am using 255/35-20 tires which are smaller than OEM R/T tires. You can use up to 29" tires in the back and 28.5" tires in the front before they begin to cause issues (the OEM R/T tire is 28.04").

It's a hard call to make...

The Hotchkis TVS Suspension makes your truck corner like it's on rails, you will enjoy it every time you make a turn as long as you don't mind the bumper ride (all lowered vehicles are bumpy because you reduce the space for shocks to absorb the bumps).

Tonneaus are nice but unless you are going to haul a lot of things around you may want to hold off on this.

The Shaker hood is very nice, definitely a visual improvement over the stock hood that you (and everyone else) will notice every day. If you don't have an air intake you'll also get a bit of a hp gain.

I live in Nevada so I'm not too familiar with east coast shows except for Mopars at the Rock, Mopars at Carlisle, etc...

The location of the Dakota R/T Club national meet rotates between each division every year, 2006's will be in the southeast region. Check www.dakotart.com around Jan/Feb for further details.

I looked into the Hotchkis kit for my '04, but Drew Oliver in their sales & tech support told me that it wouldn't fit this year. When I asked him why he never responded. Does anyone here know?

Thanks,

I wonder if they were confused and thought the '04 Dakota was the new body style?
