Subject: 2 piece drive shaft giving me the shaft! IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1997 dakota extra cab wiht a 2 piece drive shaft. I an wondering if any of you guys with laid out trucks have had any problems with vibration or drive away shutter, my truck is rattling me to death upon acceleration. I have tried every possible pinion angle adjustment I could make with my links but nothing seems to affect it. Has anyone got any information about going to a one piece drive shaft, ie. possibly one from an r/t or something.I have talked to drive line shop owners about the angles between drive shafts, but when droppped these angle are not possible to attain compared to the factory ride height. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

Message: I am having the same problem with my 98 ext 5.2 automatic and I just replaced the u joints and carrier bearing and got 1 mile down the road and idek what happened but now I have 1 drive shaft missing u joints and the carrier is trashed not to mention my emissions box that got blow apart when the drive shaft came off. ive been searching all over forums, google, bing, trying to see what others are doing and for the most part every one that has swapped their 2 piece with and RT 1 piece says its great. and I found that the reason the 2 piece is there is because factory the regular Dakotas sit taller than the RTs do so they put the carrier there basically as a pivet for the drive shaft but since the RT is lower its not at so much of an angle they were able to put a 1 piece aluminum shaft in and illuminate the 2 piece crap..my only problem is actually finding a 1 piece shaft to buy it seems like they are just not out there..but if I come across a site ill let u know.
