2" control arms and 4" or 5" shackle hangers
in the rear (measure the diff from ground to
bottom of fender) This way, you keep the
stock springs, therefore stock spring ratio,
and stock ride....well almost, any drop will
affect the ride, the lowering shocks will be the
part of THIS drop that affects the ride, will
make it slightly stiffer, but not enough to not
want to drive your truck.

Western Chassis
DJM

both of these companies make lower control
arms for your dakota. I chose DJM, but do
some research before you make your
decision, call up the companies, both will
slander one another, but both are pretty much
the same, and similar price.

Lowering your truck will only do good things, like improved handling. I have Western Chassis control arms and springs in the front and the hotchkis kit in the rear. A total drop of 3/4. I think that the ride isn't much more harsh than stock, except when you hit a big bump. I fell in love with my truck all over again after lowering it. Theres nothing like having a truck that handles better than the car next to you.
I would also beef up the sway bars front and rear, this will improve things even more.
