Subject: Lowering with canopy on back IP: Logged
Message: I have an 87 Dakota long box, 3.9 (eventually doing V8 swap). I have a matching canopy on the back. Want to do a mild drop. Was thinking 2/3 drop, but wondering with the canopy, would the rear be too low? Anybody have experience with this? Its a fibreglass canopy (100-150lbs maybe) Would 3 be too much in the rear and make it uneven?
Thanks for any input

Message: Since you already know where it sits with the weight of the cap, you can do some simple measuring & find the drop you need. Since blocks and shackles don't affect the spring rate, the drop numbers will be the same.
IE: The rear is 2" higher than the front, you need a 2/4 drop to level it. If it's out by 1", use 2/3. If it's level now, 2" spindles and 2" blocks are best.
When the V8 goes in, put the factory springs back in. You'll probably be about level.
