 Subject: Opinions on cutting coil springs?

I have a 99 3.9L Dakota and I am wanting to drop the front an inch to go along with the two inch drop in the rear. And I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on just cutting off 1/2 of a coil to loose that inch I need, or is it a bad idea in terms of suspsension.
