Subject: So heres the plan IP: Logged
Message: i just bought a kota 97 with tax return.
i bought the belltec drop with nitro shocks. i also bought the Stillen front bumper. I have hookup with the local auto salvager so new seats will be coming.
First what seats fit minor to no modification I hear about the viper ones. how are they comfort wise or are people buying it cause they are from vipers.
Second, anyone have a set of r/t rims sitting around. these stocks are so lame looking.
Anyone with a belltec drop please post pictures

Message: viper seats fit nice and with little modification...
check out my page
www.cardomain.com/id/x96283
on the last page i have a little schematic i made to help with the conversion.
i also did a nice write up on delphiforums dakota rt board.
---------------
parts:
4 x 16 inch pieces of 1 in square tubing
Measuring tape, ruler at least 16 inches
Drill with various bits
Ratchet
Open end wrenches
Dremel with cutoff wheel
Fatty flathead screwdriver or long .5 inch chisel
16 bolt assemblies (a nut, a bolt, and a lock washer each—grade 8)
**Assemblies should be the same diameter as the Viper seat and Dakota rail holes—mine was 5/8in. You can use 1in or .75in long bolts**
OK first I unbolted all the seats from their frames. I think the Dakota used Torx heads bolted from the underside… you’ll have to slide the frames back and forth to access all of the bolt heads.
The Viper seats unbolted from the top of the frames… you have to wedge a wrench in between the bottom of the seat cushion and the tops of the Viper frame.
Unbolt all the rails and set them aside. You won’t need the Viper rails anymore. On one side of the Viper seats there are three holes and only two on the other. I only used the four corners (making a nice square).
On the Dakota rails (non power), my passenger one had an extra linkage to get the recline/access lever to activate the rail slider. It’s a small rod with an iron hoop over it allowing the bar to pivot. I removed this bar and hoop to leave a relatively even surface the entire length of the seat rail. Remove this hoop so that when your square tubing lies on top of the rail, it can sit relatively flush on the Dakota rail. I recommend you do the driver seat first to get the hang of it. Once you get that mounted up, you’ll what mods you need to do to the passenger side.
What you basically want to do is to line up the very front of the Viper seat frame with the front of the Dakota rail. You’ll see that the seats themselves will line up but not the hole--that’s where the tubing comes into play. Measure your holes twice and drill once. Keep your tubing flush with the front of the Dakota rails or the seat frames (depending on what you’re measuring for). All my measurements were taken from the front to the rear.
Now you should have two Dakota rails, 2 pieces of tubing with four holes in each, and a Viper seat ready to mount. Look at your tubing from the side. You’ll see that you have some inner and outer holes. You’ll have to bolt up the inner holes first. I put all the bolts in from the top or bottom so that the hardware was actually inside the tubing. If you have sausage fingers, my way won’t help you. The seat rails go in from underneath and the Viper holes get bolts from the top.
On the Dakota rails I inserted the bolts from underneath (you’ll have to move the slide action around to access the holes) so that the threads were pointing up. Remember to check your clearance by testing the slide mechanism. I guided the bolt into the appropriate tubing hole and gently slid on a lock washer with my index finger. My fingers could get about an inch of meat on the hole… hopefully yours are long enough. Then, with a dab of grease—Vaseline—something gooey—I stuck a nut on my finger and lifted it onto the lock washer and started to catch the threads. Once it was as tight as I could get it by fingertip, I stuck the chisel (or screwdriver) in between the nut and the tubing wall. It jammed up and then I could finish tightening the bolt with a ratchet.
Remember you’ll have to do the inner mounts first, then the outer mounts… for instance, front Dakota rail, then rear Viper hole, then front Viper hole and rear Dakota rail.

Message: Ok so the drop went in great. was a breeze for my friend to do. Looks fantastic. seats are gonna wait unless someone can find them cheaper than 800 for leather. Stillen front looks great also. Now for a paint color. Thinking about white. maybe the green from the new rams. I would like to do the interior in flames like flamed speedo and mirror anyone point me to a place that has these?
